You have to persuade her (woman by the campfire who was like a mother to you) to tell you what happened to them.

Of course the time I decide to try a no-Persuasion run, this happens...  Thanks, Sarah.

@Sandtigress, thanks for the summary.  I was bucking for keeper-dad to have gone abomination, requiring hunter-mom to kill him.  Because surely some Dalish magi attract demons?  And it would have gone well with unclean and cast out Warden.  Le sigh.

Hey, they're the only two who were there.  Maybe the human/city elf story is what momma elf told the Keeper happened!

That seems cruel though, you drop off a kid who dosent get to know its parents ever, just to be toghther.

I think it seems cruel for the mother to stay just long enough to give birth and then wander off never to be seen again. My Dalish, in her more lucid moments, seriously resents this.

My Dalish wasent happy about it but Tamlen, and that lady who took care off you made up for a family in some ways.
Which is why losing Tamlen hit him so hard.

I altered this bit as well for my story, so you DON'T have to stick to it. My Dalish gets to know it earlier (3 yrs before the mirror incident) than originally in the game. Hence her hatred on humans and CE. It's a mix of being something personal and upbringing, so no wonder she is bitter about them (for a long time).

Did you see my interpretation of the Dalish parents, Worlds Apart? :-P Only released through my BSN blog at the moment, not on ff.net or the forum otherwise.

I changed it too - Kara's grown up knowing about it, just like she's always had the heirloom necklace (except in her/my first game where I didn't know that it existed, but anyways...)

Oh, in my head, my PC was five or seven or so when it happened, and both parents end up dead.  And since nobody in my playthrough has said differently... :wizard:

Now that I've started a Dalish playthrough, I'm seriously mystified by the folks who say it's so disconnected.  While it's true you don't get a major NPC from the mainline plot in your background, I thought the Brecilian Forest as a Dalish was such a difference; almost as big a difference as being a dwarf makes to Orzammar.

Narratively, it sure does seem the weakest and the shortest, but I don't find it disconnected or unrelated to the rest of the game at all.

Yeah in the game is it too much of "oh well...you know before you go now and never return, there is one thing I have never told you before, because...well because!" Lol. Umm, yeah thanks for this information. It's not that it would be important to know EARLIER.

Also I had the impression that Dalish mum died on broken heart not much later, and not did act like "I leave noa to see teh world, keep that brat, k?Thxbai.Wheeeheee." xD

I cant wait for the DLC to come out right now, since the reviews have said Dalish have alot of fun with it.

Last real run with a Dalish in DA I guess. Since cool people dont play elves in BiowarEa land.

I totally agree. I know she thinks she was doing the right thing by giving you life, but then to leave you? :( That affects some of my Dalish quite deeply.

Yes, the Dalish quest certainly has a different feel to it if you are Dalish. Nothing major is changed, it's just the little things here and there that make a difference. I wonder why the PC's clan wasn't used though, or why the Dalish Warden wasn't from Zathrian's clan. It seems like you were supposed to be from that clan, but a decision was made to change it for some reason before the release of the game. If the Dalish clan quest was your clan, the Dalish origin wouldn't have felt so disconnected.

Little bit from one of the podcasts today, DG would not talk about there being a different faction of elves in DA2 "because it's a plot point".  Which makes me think that there will be.  It would be way cool to have Dalish factions, like maybe a zealot faction vs. progressives.

That would be interesting seeing someone like Zathrian, and someone like Lanya bickering over what to do.

Unless Hawke did something impressive I dont see why they would care what he has to say.

Out of curiosity, did your char romanced someone, leggywillow?

Yes, Rhet (my elf) romanced Alistair.

She was in love with Tamlen but always figured they would have time.  Losing him was devastating for her, on top of being dragged into the crazy world of humans.  Falling in love with Alistair was very unexpected, but in some ways he reminded her of Tamlen.

Rhet was rather bemused by all the human politics, since Dalish politics don't seem to depend on bloodlines.  She was confused as to why Alistair HAD to be king but went along with it since getting someone on the throne (and someone she trusted) seemed to be the most expedient way to end the Blight.

When Alistair left her, she believed his true feelings about elves came out:  Good enough to sleep with, but not good enough for anything else.  She was furious and hurt (and not the most rational character to begin with).

I think that was the straw that broke the camel's back.  Rhet lost Tamlen.  She hated leaving her clan but felt too changed to ever live amongst them again.  She hated the things she had been forced to do along her journey, and she had been betrayed by the one human she had ever trusted.  Rhet felt very changed, used, and broken by the end of the game.

It was really sad; it was actually hard to play. :crying:

Reminds me of my sisters first time playing through.

She had an unhardened Alistair kill Loghain, so he publically dumped her.

Me and my dad were 10 feet away and heard:

YOU SOB!!!!!!!!.

She hated Alistair a lot, but had killed Zevran so nice dice for her. By the time Morrigan showed she told her to shove it. She left Alistair at the gate, and told me she wished there was a line like:

Rot in hell, you piece of scum,

Boy was she POed at the end.

Still havent gotten her back in yet.

@leggywillow: Wow a pretty tragic story. Mind if I say that I like it? :D

Anyway I never have done the US (just to test it but I never kept it). I just can't do that to Alistair. Then again he often remains a happy Warden :) ...or sometimes as a hardened king, who won't give up on my chars. Though mostly I love to tell Eamon to shove it, when he rambles on about the Theirin bloodline, heh. Best part of it. :D

And for your sister a special pic, giggles, because she had been gaidered.

If she saw that then Gaider would need to start running.

She was literally about to hit me upside the head for not warning her. But she had said that she didnt want spoilers.

Ah well what can you do.

It was the only time I saw someones face look like this though:

You might tell her at times that there are indeed other ways around that problem, right? It's a Bioware game after all. Then again my first playthrough was as HNF, so it was all working smoothly for me, heh. Second was F!Dalish Lenya, btw but at that time I already knew what to do.So Gaider didn't get me, actually :P

Going back to my FF now, deep roads is on the chapter menu and Len doesn't like it one bit.

Resurrecting from page 2 to discuss our new companion Ariane and the Dalish stuff in WH.  Your thoughts, elvenhan?  Assume spoilers.

Also, on the Alistair thread we were noting what great WTF faces our elves can make.

WTF, talking statue?

This is a great WTF face from Awakening.  I think it's probably the smell.

I was shocked that Ariane was Dalish AND not horribly rude to outsiders. Seriously, even when she was threatening to break my finger for poking her unnecessarily, she seemed pleasant. I know that not all Dalish are hostile to outsiders but she's one of the first that we've ever seen like that and I really liked her. I do wonder if this trait of hers is why her clan made her a liaison of sorts to the outside world?

Re Witch Hunt, if you are using the Dalish mage mod, I found that the correct dialogues triggered everywhere but the elven ruins.  Basically I don't recommend importing a Dalish mage character.  The dialogues are so nice in there that you will miss out on a lot.  Too bad.

I so wished Ariane would have been the Dalish companion in Awakening instead of ...ugh Valenna. That would have been awesome..but no we had to get this bad copy of Morrigan. Sigh.

I loved Ariane, she was soo adorable dalish with a witty, dry humor. I hope this wasn't the last we've seen of her. <3

Ariane was awesome! I wish she had taken Finn's role as the "know it all" in WH so that it would've been her constantly talking and giving information. And damn, she was a killing machine!

EDIT: I'm yet to play WH with a dalish. I'm looking forward to the dialogues in the elven ruins!

Addai, so glad you got to hear them! They really are wonderful, aren't they? I think it will be a canon part of Kara's story after all, but we're excluding the tainted elves and shrieks. I don't get why they'd be there, and that, more than anything, made those ruins incredibly traumatic.

I liked Ariane a lot too and I liked that she held the Dalish Warden in such awe. Made her feel very heroic and loved by her people, and just all around great immersion for the Dalish Warden in this DLC in general.
