That Fiona picture is lovely. I can totally see why Maric fell for her. I would.

While I'm on elven mages, here's the Dalish mage that i made earlier today:

And my Dalish Warrior, who I made ages ago but re-designed today in the toolset:

I wanted to show off my latest two.

Caethes the Dalish mage I mentioned:

I don't usually do the bloodwriting so dark but it seemed to suit her.

I'm awake! XD And those are some beautiful pictures!

I was thinking of my favorite romance, Morrigan, and of course I always romance her with elves (I just can't play human males for some reason. If I am going to be a human, then it is always as a female.). I was just thinking out of the three elf origins, I think she gets along the best with the Dalish. She respects them and their way of life. She even feels a sort of a kinship with them since they are such outsiders the way she is.

There is a lot of potential with Morrigan and a elven mage as well, once you get past the whole being from the Circle thing. Most of my mages aren't fond of the Circle anyway and actually agree with Morrigan on a lot of her points. You also get more approval from her if you are a Circle mage and agree with her (probably because it is so unexpected). Also I love to play shapeshifters and seeing how they are so rare in Thedas, I think a shapeshifter would think they really found a kindred soul in Morrigan. It's too bad that there isn't any shapeshifter specific dialogue when asking her how she became one.

And lastly I have always thought that the CE and Morrigan romance is the most conflicted, rocky and downright bad of the three. First of all, Morrigan looks down on the city elves as weaklings that have accepted their fate. She isn't sympathetic at all when told about your wedding. And of course the absolute clincher is when she suggests that you sacrifice your own father to make yourself stronger. >< I really have a hard time romancing her with a CE. She just comes off as so uncaring to Warden.

Yeah, it's as if it honestly doesn't occur to her that you didn't go to the Circle and stay there for years voluntarily.

On topic - I'm running a Dalish mage for the first time. I didn't want to before due to the dialogue problems but I found a mod that fixes some of them. I love being an apostate. Mentally blowing raspberries at Wynne is fun ;-)

Idun annulled the Circle, starting with Wynne.  But it didn't give me much satisfaction because I think it wracked her a lot and probably would stay with her the rest of her life.

P.S. What mod fixes the dialogue problems?  I didn't mind them, to be honest.  It lent a certain paranoiac air to Broken Circle that everyone kept acting like they recognized Idun.  She already thought they were all batsh*t crazy anyway.  LOL

I've had the Dalish mage origin mod for ages but I couldn't play it because the dialogue errors mad me nuts.

I saw this on Nexus by chance :

Non circle mage dialogue fix

I haven't got very far into Caethes' playthrough to see how it goes and what it might clash with.  Only Ostagar so far - the only mage related option that seemed to be left was after the joining when you compare it to the harrowing.

Otherwise both Wynne and the Templars there treated her as a Dalish.

Shame there's no "OMG its an apostate kill it!" mod - I have to rp that in my head ;)

Thanks!  Do you know there's a scene where the PC can turn Morrigan in to Greagoir?  Terra_Ex was working on restoring it.  Not that I'd ever do that!!

Yep the pictures are nothing but short of amazing. Still I would drop dead if the Maker would say something like that to me. Heart attack and all that. xD Then again I merely have the ability to draw a stickman so it would never happen, anyway. Whew.

I drew a picture of one of my elf mages once. I call it, "The Most Unlikely Warden Ever". XD It's probably not enough to wake up the thread though. XD

Cutest mage ever! I think my Dalish warrior is my best Warden. She is at least the most dedicated to the cause, though some of my more practical dwarves are probably better about the whole "whatever is necessary" thing.

I'm really not even sure why my bloodmage human is fighting the Blight other than game mechanics, to be honest...but my Kara is my most dedicated to fighting the darkspawn.

I am not sure if this the right thread to ask my following, but what is the worst that can happen?:

Is there any specific guidelines for creating an elven name for your PC? I know there are numerous sites that can give you dozens of choices within seconds, but I prefer making my own names. I randomly made up quite a few of my own but I am doubtful that most would fit in the lore of DA:O.

I don't know about offical guidelines.   Personally I give my elves welsh names it seems to fit for me.  And...apparently in DA2 the Dalish will have welsh accents (yummeh).

Someone more lore knowlegable might be more helpful...

Edit in case someone wants it Forum thread linky re accents

We actually tossed this around twitter yesterday briefly.  Human names seem to come from old English/Welsh/Irish/German roots - Wynne, Teagan, Eamon, Isolde for instance are or were actual names.

It seems to me the elves are more likely to have made-up fantasy style names, though that applies especially to the Dalish.  Amusingly Merrill (Keeper's first in the Dalish Origin) is a man's name, but the rest seem like your typical fantasy fare - Tamlen, Fenarel, Marethari, Lanaya, etc.

Someone commented that the city elf names seem more Latin-related - Valendrian, Shianni, Cyrion, etc.

So now when I'm coming up with names, I tend to use a great name site for humans, but make up my elven names - Kara is technically a human name but it's short for Karaleyna, and I have Tiryan, Anarya, Caradin, Jessmin, Tavin, etc.

With Lenya I just went with the initial name and it became that, dunno how. It just happened. I was surprised to get to know later that the name really exist, heh. Though I like the sound of Lenya Mahariel, fits well together imo. My CEF is named Aeris which sounds a bit funny when you put it together with the last name. Aeris Tabris, heh. My Surana is named Auraya which I read it a book and liked. Then I have my M!Dalish who is named Alonis, for no apparent reasons *shrug* The name just came to me and I liked it.

But guidelines? No. I don't want to stare 50 hours on the screen and think wow the name is fitting in the lore but gawd actually I hate this one. ;)

As for lore-fitting ones, here a few names from the DA-player guideline:

Sample Female Names: Adanna, Ashalle, Desta, Elora,

Hanan, Maram, Lanaya, Ranalle, Shinasha, Unathe.

Sample Male Names: Athras, Falos, Harel, Lindel,

Masarian, Nethras, Pellian, Ralath, Sarel, Zathrian.

Sample Dalish Clan Names: Alvar, Brightmore, Brunwyn,

Ellwood, Fadrick, Goldhawk, Litwyn, Redway,

Winbow, Yonwyn.

Since it is probable that my next character will be a CEF, I remembered all the names within the origin itself and tried to make a name that seemed to fit within that culture. A,N,L,I, and S seem to be used a bit within CE names, so I empathized those letters a bit more.

I also tried to make the name short since most CE tend to have shorter names. I am going to check out these websites to see the Welsh & Latin names to see if someone sticks out.

The reason I have asked is because I am horrible at naming PCs in games in general and for once I would like to have a name that I can make up and not have it feel too eccentric/out of place Thanks for the tips.

HeeHee! I'm quite eclectic when it comes to naming my elves. I've taken names from Tolkien, the Elder Scrolls games, and my own brain. XD I tend to name my Dalish with more traditionally elven sounding names and my city elves with names that are shorter and sound more human, but not quite.

My avatar is the only elf I named from Dragon Age.  His name was Abelas, which means sorrow if I remember the story correctly.

Thanks everyone for the compliments on my elf too! XD He was a lot of fun to draw.

Given this a bump.

I wish BioWare had given us guys a female elf to romance that is the only thing keeping my city elf from being my canon. I tend to RP my elves in taking a lot of pride in their heritage and wanting to continue the elven bloodline, so a mixed race romance would kind of be ooc for them. Though being a Grey Warden kind of kills my elven bloodline anyways -_-. I think Lanaya would of been perfect for the female elf romance, but it is what it is guess my elves will get their lovin in fanficitons :P.

Being a GW only absolutely kills it if you romance another GW (like if you decided that in Awakening your character ended up with Velanna). If you romance someone who isn't a Warden then conceiving is difficult but not impossible. Remember Fiona, after all. Fortunately, elves seem to be a rather fertile species and so it's not as hard as if, say, you were a dwarf GW trying to procreate without magical assistance.
