None is as easy on the eyes of the fairer gender as Ron, Corker.

But killing Vaughan was one thing I loved doing seeing that bastard get gutted then his head lopped off was sastifying. I did play me CEF as breaking down in that room though, or near to it and having Alistair and Wynne try to get her to move on.

My current PC actually spared Vaughan.  I know, I know.  But she's Dalish and unfortunately did not get Soris to tell her what happened, nor Vaughan's line about elves thinking they're people, and well, being an ass does not warrant murder in her book.  So out he went.

It was the first time I've had his vote in the Landsmeet.  What a wiener.  I was surprised at first because I'm used to the first voice speaking up being that paragon of manliness, Bryland, and instead there's this weaselly little voice which can barely be heard saying "The Warden, I'm for the Warden."  What a pile of nug kak.

I never need him since I always do the Trial of Crows quest line to get the other guys vote.

Well, as it turned out, I did need his vote, but that's not why she let him out. I figure there is always a Zevran special when she finds out what really happened in the alienage.

Sadly for Vaughan he is usually gets Warden Murder Knifed.

Since I always get Soris' side of the story first I know what happened.

It's true, even CloneRon proves irresistable

I liked playing as a City Elf for this line mostly:

King Calian: So how did DUncan recruit you?

Me: Oh, I murdered an Arl's son for raping my cousin!

KC: YOU WHAT!!!

He is a smexy beast, who puts the gggrrrr in Ranger.

also this sums it up:
Ron: He lives vicariously through himself.
He is a lover not a fighter, but he is also a fighter so dont get any ideas
His sweat cures the taint, and his tears any injury. To bad he does neither.
His organ donation card also lists he eyebrows
The Templars often question him.. just because he is so interesting
He never says anything tastes like nug. EVEN nug.

He is the most interesting Dalish in the world.
"I dont often drink ale but when I do, I perfer Tapsters¨
"Stay thirsty my friends"
-Ron.

?? What 'Ron thing'?  Giggles's 'facts about Ron? Check out some Chuck Norris Facts and see if it makes any more sense.

Or more basically, like 'who is this Ron person'?  He's a PC of SurelyForth's, posted upthread a bit.  He's a cutie.

.Unfortunately, the DE origin is the opposite. I love the lore, but I don't like anyone from the origin and feel distinctly 'meh' by the time I've finished. Thus, I created The Ron F. Mahariel, who is just an awesome Dalish who is awesome and stuff. He's pro-shem, loves Morrigan, is fascinated by Shale and dwarven culture and simply rocks.

lol Ron is SurelyForth's Dalish PC.  And I my Dalish Kara deveoped a huge crush on him after she used his portrait as her avatar for a few weeks.  So one day she comments about how her male PCs all look like meatheads and I told her that I Kara have had a huge crush on Ron, all in the gush thread.

This led to jokes about Mahariel self-cest, since they're basically the same people in alternate universes, which led to yukidama commenting about how her Dalish PC looked like their kid which led to me doing this:

Image IPB

which eventually actually became a story in my head that demanded to be written, which can be found here:

Worlds Apart

The most amusing thing is that it is not a parody story and has actually sort of become part of Kara's canon story, and yeah....

Of course, the irony is that Ron was created while Surely was bored one night when the Alistair thread turned into Dalish love.  And now, yeah.  Ron is the luckiest PC ever!

So basically, Ron Mania is a mass hysteria loosed on the Alistair thread which the CDC thinks may be traced back to sniffing a particularly pungent wheel of Orlesian Blue in Alistair's stash.  Of cheese, that is.

Some of us are immune.  Image IPB

I can assure you, I do not.  Not that I don't appreciate a fine-looking Dalish man.  There aren't exactly an abundance in the game.  Actually the only elf that does anything for me is Zevran and that is mainly because of his story/ personality rather than looks.

Modding Tamlen did help me believe in the idea that my PC was in love with him.

On the female side, I think Erlina and Devera are the prettiest elves in the game and started making dark-haired elves in part out of that admiration.  But Mythal's mercy, that's only until they open their mouths.

I always thought Shianni was quite pretty, My current elf  has her head morph changed up a bit because I can't make elves to save myself and I wanted there to be a family resemblance, then I saw Soris and realised my plan had flaws. I also got a bit carried away with the purple hair and tattoos and stuff.
I never liked Erlina personally, she just annoyed me, I can't remember if I ever thought she was pretty. Even if I had her annoyance levels have made me forget all about it as I think "SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP!" whenever she speaks, I also never noticed Devara ( Or remembered her name, so that might not even be what's she's called) but I guess she is kind of pretty now that you point it out.

Now that I think about it, a lot of the elven NPCs are pretty annoying.  I'm afraid that elves play a similar role in DA as what they did to Gimli in the LOTR movies- comic relief and color.

Hey Gimli was awsome!

And Jackson nailed how Gimli and Legolas became friends in the end.

But yes he was seriously pulling a Oghern with him for some laughs.

Well buuut back to the topic, shall we. I love the DA-elves (duh) because they are different from other fantasy elves and the underdogs here. And I have a thing for underdogs. Anyway, after I had finished my first playthrough as a CousCous, where I became queen, I was like "Well, kinda nice but somehow...lacking." Then I started my second char, A F!Dalish and was instantly sold. I liked the concept of being so foreign to the world and seperated from all you have known much more than being the eloquent noble woman. My char instantly shaped into a reluctant Warden with a sarcastic sense of humor and practical mind. Lenya loved to hate shems, and I did it as well *muahaha* It was just such a different feeling in comparision with a Cousland before and I loved it. I just found it kind of sad that the Dalish Warden isn't so good intertwined with the DA-world like other origins are,  and there are things I would have liked to be more eleborated, but hey that's what fanfiction is for, right? And here I go now, being one of the very few (*waving to Sandi)* who writes a Mahariel-DA:O- retelling ficlet. For the purpose to give the Dalish culture, my char and her struggling in a world that is not her own, more substance as it is has been done in the game. Alas (or not) it had grown into a monster which swallowes hell of my time and will yet take ages until it's finished (estimated 80- 90 chapter in the end, 20 written yet)

But hey it's fun. Elves do it better after all. :wizard:

Book Gimli is awesome.  Movie Gimli... well, less so.

Legolas was right on the borderline, too.  The scenes that saved his portrayal for me were a) walking on the snow on Caradhras (Elf Nerd approves +10) and "night eyes" seeing Sauron as he stands with Aragorn on the balcony in Edoras.  Just because it was kind of cool.

I liked their banter:

G: You could have picked a better spot!

L: Would you like me to describe it to you? Or would you rather I got a box?

A lot of the deleted scenes are worse though than the ones in the film, cheese wise.

Most egregious was where they had him huffing and puffing to keep up when that is the opposite of Tolkien dwarves.  I'm not even a dwarf lover and I was insulted on his behalf.  Image IPB

Don't even get me started on what they did to Gil-Galad and Elrond!  Those guys are supposed to be hot!  And they nixed Glorfindel entirely... such woe.

Hijack is appropriate b/c Mary Kirby said all forum threads eventually lead to Tolkien and that has so not been true, that I could see.  So time to even the balance.

if we're talking about elves form other forms of literature/universes, this book:

Image IPB

affected me deeply. On paper it makes no sense if I recount the plot to you, but I still reread it occasionally. Out of print now, according to wikipedia, but easy enough to hunt down a used copy.

The elves here are fantastic and have the same situation as DA elves in that their culture is dying out and there's not many of them. It's set against a fictional european backdrop (I'd say Italy going by the names) during a Christian inquisition, so it has that lovely religious guilt thing too.

I have a soft spot for redemptive stories and bitter heroines, and this story has it by the bucket.

(Just... Don't read the sequels. They're bad.)
