My absolutely favourite fantasy elf is:

Drizzt Do'Urden

I wish I could RP a charachter this awsome.

D&D type elf, I take it?  I am not familiar with them except occasional comments my husband's made about dark elves, half-elves etc.

My favorite Tolkien elves are Feanor, Maedhros, Fingon, and Beleg.

Even though I'm a Tolkien N*zi, I really appreciate that DA elves did not just recycle.  I like the darker themes to the DA elven lore.  A lot of people who haven't read the Silmarillion assume Tolkien elves are all high and mighty, too.  The Dalish remind me of what might have come out of Tolkien writing about the Avari, the dark elves who never went to Aman.  I hope in DA2 we see some really good story relating to Kirkwall being an elven slave trade center.

I also like that physically the elves were human-like with a few variations, rather than mutant freaks.

Drizzt is awsome with a lot of depth to him, and a great sense of humor.

I will try to make my next CE close to him.

While I feel bad for the Dalish, Sarel makes me very angry.

I am a sodding grey warden buddy who is saving your ass, cut the tude.

Quick question but can Elves be Templars? Or is that a no-no?

His wife just died, so he's tetchy.  Oh, and the whole multiple attempts at genocide/ slavery thing.  Image IPB

My 1st CEF was a templar.  What an all-around disaster she was. (er, not because she was a templar, but because her player was major fail at just about everything)

This is Kallian at her wedding, still wearing the ratty dress she woke up in b/c her player hadn't yet figured out how to equip stuff.

He does once you've actually saved them. Until then he has no reason to be grateful to you.

I've wondered that too, Elves apparently aren't premitted to serve in the military forces of the Human kingdoms. However I've never seen an Elf in the Chantry at any level as priest, lay sister or Templar Knight. I wonder if that's just an oversight on the part of the developers or if the Chantry bans elves from quasi-military service as well in order to not upset the Human Monarchs.

Despite Shianni and the others referring to the Maker and using a Chantry priest for weddings, the Revered  Mother in Lothering says that not many elves are receptive to the Chantry if you're an elf and ask for a blessing.

Right before entering the podium, the CE can ask Soris why there are no elven priests. Soris replies that they could ask Mother Boann about this when she arrives. So it seems likely that elves cannot hold any position within the Chantry be it as priests or templars.

Oh, right, you mean in Ferelden not in gameplay.  Yes I'm sure there is a general ban on arming elves in any capacity.  "An elf who uses a sword dies on one."

OTOH, Brother Burkel is an indication there isn't a racial ban on priests, just probably a lack of interested elves or dwarves.

Yes, I mean in Ferelden. Of course an elf warrior could get the Templar specialization when it comes to gameplay, I would believe?

They probably made an exception for Burkel given their interest in expanding, particularly in Orzammar where they might get cheaper lyrium if they were Andrastian, and as the insular nature of the dwarves means that they'd likely be more receptive if it were coming from one of their own.

Most human seem to view elves as slaves.  I know they're nominally 'free' in the DA world now, but the attitudes of the humans doesn't reflect that imho.

My favourite fantasy elf:

I likes me some dark fantasy ;-)

This is something I actually want to include in Kara's playthrough fic, if I decide to write what goes on in Denerim pre-Landsmeet.  Something about her and Alistair entering the Alienage and him suggesting he hold her weapons, rather than there be a misunderstanding because she is a rather heavily armed elf, being a Dalish hunter and all that.

Wasent that unimplemented but left in the coding that guards would stop a armed elf in denerim?

I actually don't mind Sarel. It's just that his fungus-beard kind of creeps me out. It might be catching.

My all-time favourite elf is probably Fëanor. Some days I'd pick a different one, but most days I'd pick him.

That's almost exactly my list! I'd replace Fingon with Finrod, and there you have it.

To continue the Tolkien hijack, one of my (many) problems with the Lord of the Rings movies is what they did to the elves. I'm really hoping that they stay far, far away from the Silmarillion.

If nothing else, you'd think with a make-up budget like that they could've actually gone to the trouble to block out beard stubble on all of them. I mean, really. I could do that with my community theatre budget. It's not that hard. I have to assume they just didn't want to.

I'll try not to get into my 'reasons I hate the Lord of the Rings movies' rant, though. It's long and probably annoying. I'll just leave it at 'I really didn't like them but admit they are technically good movies'.

And would that go in a 'oh, good thinking Alistair, we wouldn't want to cause problems' way or a '**** no, shems can bring it' way? I think I'd probably go the latter as my Dalish wouldn't be about to let a human try and tell them what they can and cannot do based on their species and my CE would be all 'I'm a GW now, they can't keep me unarmed and helpless anymore.' Granted, that would be quick to lead to a fight, particularly if anyone tries to stop them...

Feanorian fist-bump.  Image IPB  The movie elves are very ethereal and breathy, hence perhaps why you see people in the DA2 forums hoping that DA elves don't end up more Tolkienish- they seem to be picturing pretty fairies.

I like Maedhros and Fingon because of their story.  It's the sort of thing I hope we see in future installments- elves living real drama.  DA2 is not likely to be that game, I guess, because it seems to be centering on human history.

I'm pretty sure it wouldn't result in a fight between them - she gets why he's asking, and its sort of to protect her but also practicality's sake - they don't need to be bothered by guards or attract attention just for the sake of her weaponry.  It would probably go over relatively peacably, especially as Kara carries a pair of boot-knives anyways that would be hidden from view.  Reluctant though, as she doesn't like to not be Dalish or hide or pretend to be a flat-ear.

I see. I didn't really mean a fight between them so much as a guard stopping them leading to a fight instead of trying to work it out peacefully.

Oh, i realize that.  I meant that there would be no outright conflict bewteen Kara and Alistair over it (though maybe some reluctance) precisely because she realizes they don't want to attract hostile attention from the guards, as you say.  She'd give up her weapons but feel rather uncomfortable about doing so, even knowing that Alistair would watch her back if necessary, and that she's not helpless while weaponless.

It's sort of OOC that you can walk around Denerim and be recognized as Wardens and yet not arrested anyway. I guess that's why they keep you to the rougher parts of town, to make that plausible. Why the Gnawed Noble ended up there, who knows. Neighborhood encroachment, maybe.

I didn't think it was weird. Kylon was in charge of the area of Denerim that you go to and he outright tells you that his men fail too much for him to even think about trying to apprehend you as long as you don't start any serious problems and that there's a lot of crime going on anyway.

Burkel isn't a priest. He's a brother. Priests are Father (in Haven and possibly the Tevinter Imperium) or Mother (in Ferelden and Orlais). Using the medieval Catholic church as a guide, Brother Burkel is a missionary who has taken orders of some sort (roughly analogous to a monk or a friar). In the chantry in Lothering you meet some sisters.

Leliana was a lay sister of the Chantry during her stay in Lothering.

Never. That's one reason my current CEF's mabari is named 'Maker'.
