So I just got this game today. And despite all the hype, what a let down so far.
First, the game doesn't even start because apperantly the latest patch breaks the .exe. Okay, fixed after a little search on the boards.
So, next. I start up my game and begin creating a character. Somewhere halfway through the process the game becomes choppy, extremely choppy. I quit and search the forums again, maybe deleting my download cash (free redeem) and lowering my graphics might help.
No luck, the game runs horribly and I cannot find any solution. CPU usage is at a constant 100%.
Tech info:
Dual Core T9400 @ 2.53Ghz
3gig RAM
GeForce 9600 GT
Windows XP
Also, laptop, if that's important.
Thanks to anyone who can help me!

you need to set processor affinity to the 2nd core... how much video RAM does your 9600 have?

Basically from what I've seen so far. This game uses WAY more resources to make the same amount of graphics than other games. I have a 2.2 GHZ intel core 2 duo, 2x Nvidia 8600 GT, they are SLI. I then have 2GB of patriot extreme performance ram, and windows XP. Most games I can play on high, some around medium. This game I have to have on downright CRAP settings for it to run at a reasonable rate. To be honest, I've never seen a game look this bad on my PC. I can run other games like Oblivion with MUCH better graphics. I don't know why this game runs so slowly, but I've seen many others saying the same thing. So yeah...

How would I do that?
Also, reinstalling the game and not patching it this time. The more I read about the latest patch, the more I dread it.
I was actually able to play just now. I shut off my wireless network, avast and any other stuff in the background. Updated my drivers and played the game on the lowest graphics.
It worked beautifully, until I opened the area map and then it went all down hill from there.
So, reinstalling, hoping that helps.

ALT-CTRL-DEL, go into task manager and right click on the process (not application) and click set affintiy. Then unclick all but one processor.

Thanks, that helped some. CPU drain is at a steady 50% now.
The game is still slowing down though, but this has at least helped a bit. I'll try turning off my internet connection again, maybe that'll help.
