I made a shiny new OekakiBBS just for Dragon Age fans!
http://www18.oekakib...s/oekakibbs.cgi

Everyone is welcome to come draw, scribble, and sketch Dragon Age fanart and whatnot! (No registration, all you need is Java and a mouse/tablet!)

For those of you who aren't familiar with OekakiBBS, I give you the wikipedia explanation: Oekaki on the Internet refers to a bulletin board system allowing artists to draw online and share their pictures.

Anyway, come play with us! :)

Hey, all you artistic types! Image IPB  I was wondering if you could help me out?  My daughter loves to draw, and we just got her a new computer for  her birthday, and I wanted to buy her a paint/drawing program that's a little better than MS Paint. Image IPB

Something that's good, but also suitable for a 11 year old.  I don't want to buy a program so confusing that she just gets frustrated.

Something fun and easy to work with preferably.

Thanks for your help. Image IPB

For an 11 year old? Art Rage.

I use it all the time as proper art programs confuse me <.<

I'd recommend:

ArtRage - approved by my 6 year old cousin... and soignee :3, it's really fun to use

TuxPaint - we use it at school and most kids love that, made for primary kids, so maybe 11 years is to old for this

Paint Tool SAI - most simple, logical and functional interface, with all the stuff you need, I suppose 11 year old would figure it out easily

One day I will be a real digi artist and shock you all and use Illustrator or Photoshop or something.

I was not trying to disregard the software, imo it's good sign that it can be used by a small (but smart) kid as well as by pro artist.

I think e.g. photoshop is overrated. Whatever enables you to express is good choice. In fact I was very pleased by the natural media ArtRage has, though it doesn't fit my style, just a matter of choice.

haha all good Mina, I just get crap for it is all. I'm playing around with Sai and Corel Painter at the moment, and forcing myself not to run back to Artrage Studio like a girl.

Art Rage is good for kids? Excellent! My 5 year old is really into artistic stuff - I think I might have to get that for her. It's certainly a lot less messy than putting paints all over the table. :D

@ Ximena: SQUEEEEE! I am thrilled that you are drawing le sexy Edric on the BBS!

@jenncgf: I'd just like to second the recommendation of Paint Tool Sai - I loves it very much and use it almost exclusively. It has a great interface and runs really smoothly (and simply!)

Though I have yet to try ArtRage, I really should.

@payroo ;)

I also add to the recommendation of Paint Tool SAI. It's very simple. And it certainly is more geared towards illustration side. All of my dragon age fanart (except for Somewhere in Thedas) was created with Pain Tool Sai. I am currently in love with its brush tool. And it's blending is just <3.

As for ArtRage, couldn't really say anything about it since it's been years since I touched it. XD Corel Painter is a little more hardcore than it is, I think. And would certainly require knowledge regarding traditional media to an extent.
