I think it would be a nice touch if they improved the fighting animations so that it shows the characters actually fighting (parrying strikes, dodging more, maybe even moving around a bit during combat as opposed to just standing in on place and trading blows like Rock Em Sock Em Robots) not unlike the animation system for combat that Bioware accomplished for KOTOR 2 which I thought was quite good for the time. It would be fantastic to see a more advanced version of this system in Dragon Age 2.

oh and sprinting when you go to face your enemies in melee combat. simply lumbering towards them (esp if they take pot shots at you if they're an archer or mage) seeme incredibly awkward IMO

The thing is, Dragon Age isn't round-based like KOTOR, everything is real-time, so there isn't room to fit in those kind of animations without disrupting the combat system.

Clarification: In KOTOR a round is 3 seconds - your character makes their attacks, and then instead of standing waiting for the next round, the animations play, although for the most part they aren't actually showing what's happening in combat, they're fake parries and dodges. In DAO there are no rounds, all characters attack synchronously, and the only gaps are between one attack and the next.

dbankier is right: since it's in real time it's difficult to do that sort of thing. They could make combat animations for moves more interesting though (not that they were bad). I'd like to see a greater variety of animations for spellcasting. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that a developer said somewhere that not all of the characters necessarily have the same animations.

They're running around and fighting in The Old Republic videos for the most part, so I don't know why they couldn't for DA2. Just a thought.

I still disagree. I think you could still have KOTOR like animation with real time numbers being crunched in the background.

So what happens when it's 2 on 1, where one has an attack speed of 0.54 seconds, one has an attack speed of 0.79 seconds and one has an attack speed of 1.03 seconds?

Posted ImagePosted ImageBethany brings a meteor down on all their heads and spares our calculators the pain! :o  But yeah, I still agree with you.  I think that if the attacks feel like they have weight behind them (the only way I can think of to describe it) then the combat will feel immersive rather then just superficial attacks with slightly different animations.

I would like fatalities. Or at least more of them.

Well if there's two v one then i guess they would just have to revert to the standard real time animations but realistic 1 v 1 combat animations would still be a nice touch.
