Thank you for the understanding and enlightening thoughts about qunari philosophies and disposition.
Mine are always pessimistic, and inclined to hear most pessimistic voice at heart, when I lost enlightenment.
And thank you for the concern about Chantry.
I haven't seen a qunari Chanter yet but not sure if there aren't...
Once I was called after by a lady, she picked up an item I had dropped, looked like she has something intriguing to talk. But that time I was carrying too many load and next step she had to stumbled on a one more smallest diary I had carelessly dropped.
Qunari would say one could carry no more load than he could carry the Qun, 'the way it should be'.
I was certain I have to unload the unknown weight, even to talk...

Repression and Oppression? Perhaps, depending on your views. Those who value freedom (i.e. chaos) tend to view any form of order as "oppression". A child might view their bedtime curfew as "oppression".
But SAVAGERY? Really? Do I need to break out the Pocahontas soundtrack here? Do you "wonder if they even bleed"?

If there's one thing that you can definitely say about the qunari, is that they are not sadistic in the least. I thought it was very cool that with all the flaws in their society, they were probably a far more honorable and disciplined (the exact opposite of savage) people than humans, and especially dwarves were.
Even though they hate and are terrified of magic, they don't take any pleasure in leashing them up, because according to their values, "Everyone must serve".

Since their "private names" hold the information about parentage and such, and none of them would suddenly forget both that and what their assigned job was... no, not really.Legbiter wrote...

You took the words right out of my mouth
Anyway, what happens to a Qunari who becomes unable to perform their assigned job (or any job at all)? Say, the elderly, or someone with an adult-onset disease, or someone who sustains a disabling injury in battle? I would guess reassignment but given that Qunari identity is so firmly tied to occupation wouldn't that create some serious mental turmoil? I mean everything from your name to your "soul" is part of your job.

What happens to qunari women or men who don't want to have children? Are they forced to if they have desirable genes? :\\\\
They don't get a choice. Qunari don't raise their children, though. A father's involvement ends at conception. A mother's ends at birth.

It depends on how impared they are. If they're still mentally able, they wind up training the 12-year-olds who are assigned to their old role. If they're not mentally able, or are too physically impared to function without a lot of help, they're looked after by the Tamassrans.

For a culture that's so rigid in it's views on efficiency etc., that's surprisingly compassionate. I was expecting them to be either cast out or euthanised so as not to be a drain on resources.Mary Kirby wrote...

It's the same mentality the Qunari have toward mages, really. A person can't help being maimed, or suffering dementia, any more than they can help being a mage. They are honored for their willingness to serve their people as best they can, even if their body betrays them. Compassion aside, most of them kill themselves. It causes serious emotional trauma to suddenly lose your entire identity.

Okay, so then what happens to children who are born disabled, mentally or physically? Do the Tamassrans look after them too? If they were physically disabled but mentally sound would they be able to fulfill a non-physical role?
Also, where do Qunari live? Barracks-like accommodations with their coworkers maybe? Are they allowed personal possessions and decor or is it more spartan?
Qunari are so interesting. Feel free to drop by and talk about them whenever, Mary (and thank you for taking the time to do so, by the way)
