Qunari remind me of social insects.

So like....ants who are also SAMURAI. With horns and unusual mating habits.

hmmmmm, rather communistic insects.... the samurai thing is right too, but i dont think that there were much samurai with a specialization on growing plants....^^

Well the social insects are pretty much all communist by definition. In fact they are probably the only real communists on the planet.

The samurai thing is more about the warriors I guess. Sten's attitude towards painting is basically the same as a samurai's towards ikebana (flower arranging).

Forget not Bonsai...

Then there is the poetry, calligraphy, other literary arts, and Cha no Yu.

Yep.

Speaking of social insects though, everyone on the planet should watch David Attenborough's Life in the Undergrowth. Bugs are so cool.

This speech will have to wait for another age. I don't think the Qunari are ready for it.

well i guess the qunari are just some kind of "all systems that kill human individuality" at once mix. or, lets just face it, if the qunari dont invade us, well invade the qunari to end this madness. fantasy cold war gone hot style :).

Count me in..   I will join you in an Exalted march upon the Qun!

And you will kill tones of probably happy  civilians just because you are afraid they will kick your ass in the future  - Like you know elves who are not persecuted under the Qun and likes :police:
- That’s gray and gray morality for ye, pal

uuuummmmm.... wait the total suppression of the individuum is grey for you.... uhhhmmm.... yeeaahhh that totally makes sense to me.... besides, we only kill the warriors, the civilians arent allowed to fight us, except of course, theyre no real qunari, what would make fighting them kinda useless, wouldn't it?

If they believe they are real qunari they Are real qunari - Try to think like them - The Qun is the True Teaching ™  - They are trying to spread it because they think that it is good.
Not unlike some other religion, you know, called The Chantry who sort of  Exalt march everyone with different ideas of the state religion.

Well, than I suppose you hate the USA (well it sort of fits) and think it should be destroyed
Unfortunately enough, almost every political and religious entity would like to impose their will on the others. And unfortunately enough people who fight for this system would think that they are fighting for something Great and Important.
Those sort of things are preventing me from calling all the people with different ideas about the world cancer. You can say it about some particular people because of their own decisions and actions, but not about the whole nation. – I can move it further and turn it into the real world discussion, but I don’t think it is appropriate, so let’s focus on the Theadas.

For example:  I am a qunari-gardener who did nothing to impose the Qun on your personally.
I sincerely think that the Qun in the Truth, but that’s about it.  I do not fight because it is not my place to fight. Then some guys come and take control over the place I live in.
They say I should be a good Andrastian and follow the Chant of Light or whatever  – As a good follower of the Qun
I don’t really think much about those superstitions so I refuse – So they kill me because I am a heathen :D

Chantry in its current state is not a good thing and I am not sure that we can find something truly better than the Qun in Pseudo-Medieval Theadas.  You don’t have much choice in the Qun (and I surely wouldn’t support a system like this in the Real World)   but do you really have much choice if you were born a City Elf – It’s not like they will stop treating you like a second class citizen just because you believe yourself to be equal to humans – And I am speaking about relatively free Ferelden here (We have Tevinter Imperium with slavery and  Orlais with serfdom)

Not sure - Not a fan of  State Religions - I mean, look at the Mainstream Chantry
They were fighting
a)    Dalish  (who were given the land by their own Prophet)
B)    Their own Tevinteri brethren (Hello guys, they are Andrastian too !)
c)    Qunari ( that is the only march that can be really justified in terms of they-have started it)

Same goes for the followers of the Maker, the word *must* be spread to all four corners of the world, then the maker will return.

hmmmm im not a fan of the chantry but i think theres a difference: the qun TELLS you how to live. it suppresses people. the chantry tells you: believe in the maker. if you do so or not is basically up to you. the qun tells you how to live, tells you what you can do and what you cant do based on youre gender or something. and if something like the qun isn't destroyed, itll spread. and sure, the chantrys treatment of mages isn't nice. but they still have theyre tongue.... and sure the chantrys treatment of disbelievers isn't nice. neither is the one of the qun. so it all comes down to: what is the lesser evil for the two cant coexist. and that only CAN be the chantry.

The Chantry has also taken the crusade approach against no believers whenever given an excuse. In the Origins epilogue they might even try against Orzammar for things that are not that big - not for war anyhow. Against the only place standing between Darkspawn and the surface. The lesser evil here is NO evil, either they change how they go at things or dissapear. And neither seem open to change in the Dragon Age.

How many nonbelievers did you meet in DA:O?  Morrigan, a couple of Dalish, and some dwarves--all disliked and in some cases even hunted by the templars.  Hell, if you allow that dwarf to establish a Chantry in Orzammar, it results in an Exalted March being contemplated against the dwarves, simply because they don't want to believe in the Maker.  Hardly sounds like belief is "up to you" where the Chantry is concerned.

Can we just all agree that there are no real good or bad guys in Thedas?  One of the best parts of DA:O is how none of the factions are clear-cut good or bad.  The qunari, Chantry, mages, nobles, Dalish, dwarves, apostates, Wardens...they all have their good points and not-so-good points.

well we could agree that both are "bad" and that both need fundamental changes or just have to be erased...

What about the rumor that there is going to be a female Qunari as a possible love interest in Dragon Age 2? I hope that it's true since I just started it.

Considering that they have their weapons custom-made, I think that having different kinds of helmets isn't too outlandish.

OK, maybe I didn't make my point clear.  There is no "good."  There is no "bad."  There is no absolute morality in a world like Thedas.  No Light Side, Dark Side, Paragon, or Renegade.  There just IS, and some things work for people and some things don't.

And just who's going to DO the changing or the erasing?  Hawke?  Maybe.  It's certainly unlikely to come from within the Chantry or the qunari, unless Sten went back and started the Great Cookie Reformation.
