Can we just all agree that there are no real good or bad guys in Thedas?  One of the best parts of DA:O is how none of the factions are clear-cut good or bad.  The qunari, Chantry, mages, nobles, Dalish, dwarves, apostates, Wardens...they all have their good points and not-so-good points.

That's why I was talking about grey and gray morality before ;)

Apologies; I skimmed the thread rather hurriedly.  But yes, when it comes to political factions, DA:O does grey and grey like none other.

So, Qunari helmets are going to be like underwear, the perfect helmet for all sizes and shapes of horns? Posted Image

The helmets don't cover their horns. If they lose a horn, or part of a horn to an enemy blade, they don't care much. There are no nerves in there.  Their helmets just have to fit around them.

Oh I have a question. Was Sten being serious about "the Qunari act"? I can't tell if he has a wickedly deadpan sense of humor or whether he's just dead serious and occasionally unintentionally hilarious.

I wouldn't put it past him to mess with Morrigan as payback for her teasing, though.

He was, indeed, messing with Morrigan. If "the Qunari act" were deadly to females where do little Qunari come from? You'd think there would be a lot less of them, somehow...

Deadly to female *humans* maybe. :bandit:

But good! I prefer to think of Sten as actually having a sense of humor after all. Ah Sten. You are so awesome, you big cookie-loving softie.

Now I'm wondering what little Qunari look like.

... I just tried to imagine the player walking up to some random Qunari and nuzzling him. And then I almost laughed iced tea out of my nose. I'm just going to suggest that such a thing would not go over well.

...le drat :crying:  Oh, well.  That's not going to stop me from trying in a crack playthrough :D  Maybe it'll be like if you tried to romance Morinth in ME2.  Nonstandard game over, and the computer stares at you and says, "Thank you for that Crowning Moment of Stupid."

You talked about how the Qunari society "distributes goods"? Is it almost like the Spartan system of a household owning exactly the same utensils, food, house, furniture, etc. Overall no wealth concept? Or is this nothing like that..

How exactly do the Qunari ultimately determine their role in life? Are there a series of tests to determine their strongest aptitute? Did Sten take the G.O.A.T. or something?

I would guess at a mix of their breeding history and their aptitude. Having them in groups until a certain age depending on breeding and then splitting them up further after watching them develop.

This is only my speculation though.

Well, she only said it would not be prudent to go nuzzle a random Qunari. She didn't say there could not be Qunari LIs in the future. I mean, they've given us Garrus and Thane. It's not out of the realm of possibility. Who knows?

But can Qunari and Human make little Qunari baby-Qunaris together? I know Elves and Humans can have children but the end result is always Human. I dont know about Human/Dwarf, Elven/Dwarf, Qunari/Elvern, Qunari/Dwarf.

The Tamassrans raise all the children, give them their general education, and evaulate them. Qunari are officially assigned their roles when they are twelve years old. The Tamassrans have some tests, but nothing requiring a #2 pencil. They also have something of a head start on the process, since they are the ones who control the Qunari selective breeding program.

How far is your role determined by your parentage then?

I hope not.

Humans/dwarves can and dwarves/elves can though.

Well, than I suppose you hate the USA (well it sort of fits) and think it should be destroyed
Unfortunately enough, almost every political and religious entity would like to impose their will on the others. And unfortunately enough people who fight for this system would think that they are fighting for something Great and Important.

I don't understand international politics much. But I know what a totalitarian regime means. USA is not Totalitarian. Proof, look at their own people.

Those sort of things are preventing me from calling all the people with different ideas about the world cancer. You can say it about some particular people because of their own decisions and actions, but not about the whole nation. – I can move it further and turn it into the real world discussion, but I don’t think it is appropriate, so let’s focus on the Theadas.

Approved.

For example:  I am a qunari-gardener who did nothing to impose the Qun on your personally.
I sincerely think that the Qun in the Truth, but that’s about it.  I do not fight because it is not my place to fight. Then some guys come and take control over the place I live in.
They say I should be a good Andrastian and follow the Chant of Light or whatever  – As a good follower of the Qun don’t really think much about those superstitions so I refuse – So they kill me because I am a heathen
[smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/grin.png[/smilie]

If the Qunari guardener approves willingly of his faith's actions, I don't see how it makes him an innocent.

Chantry in its current state is not a good thing and I am not sure that we can find something truly better than the Qun in Pseudo-Medieval Theadas.  You don’t have much choice in the Qun (and I surely wouldn’t support a system like this in the Real World)   but do you really have much choice if you were born a City Elf – It’s not like they will stop treating you like a second class citizen just because you believe yourself to be equal to humans – And I am speaking about relatively free Ferelden here (We have Telvinter Imperium with slavery and  Orlais with serfdom)

I consider chantry hypocrasy equally detestable. So There....

BUT.

Even if chantry DOES wish to propagate the chant of light throughout Thedas, there is no written word YET to force it upon everyone. Of course there are warmongers, but no divine comments on the matter. The Qun is dogmatic about that matter. There are NO options but war and/or subjugation.

So iTomes is right. If everything is gray, choose the lighter shade of grey... Makes sense to me.

EDIT: In all honesty, I know that this discussion will evolve into a hate speech. So to put a stop to it, I accept public defeat, assuming there was an argument. Let's give it a pause in favor of general harmony.

Not that I doubt you. I'm just deathly curious, where does it say this? I'm too lazy to try and look it up. ;)

Qunari have been bred for specific roles for a very long time. Parentage isn't really the issue anymore: It's more like pedigree. If you're a soldier, then there have been lots and lots and lots of soldiers in your bloodline, to the extent that you were probably born with the capacity to march in formation. If you were bred to be a fisherman, you are probably drawn to water the way that Labrador Retrievers are compelled, as if by an unseen force, to jump into the swimming pools of the neighbors. But breeding doesn't mean you, specifically, are suited for the job. Maybe you're bred to be a soldier, but you turn out more intellectual -- the Tamassrans may stick you in the priesthood, researching weapons technology or the Ben-Hassrath, policing the populace, or who knows what, depending on what roles need filled by someone with your specific traits.

Makes sense.

But if they continue to use you for breeding, do they go after your pedigree or your own talents? A 5:th generation soldier that turns out to become a baker, would he be used as breeding material for bakers or soldiers?
