I've had this probably since I bought SOU several years ago, continually hoping that the next patch would fix it. Well after recently updating to 1.69, that's it and it still doesn't work.

I have essentially an identical configuration as you except I use the patched Diamond version and SP2 of XP. One other difference is I never installed the Catalyst driver (I use the original 6.14.10.5885 driver that came with the machine). So I am guessing you need to either: 1)play around with the settings on your Catalyst, 2) upgrade to a Catalyst version that provides support for legacy games like NWN or 3) downgrade to the driver version I am using or equivalent. Of course, if other games you play require the Catalyst to function properly you may find yourself between the proverbial rock and a hard place until you upgrade to a Catalyst version that functions properly with all generations of games.
Oh, also... I am running DirectX 9.0+, as a reference.
Sry, didn't have time to check your link.

In 2008, I installed the Diamond Edition on a PC with a Radeon 9800 XT card, with 256 MBs of VRAM on it. It worked fine. The Ti-200 had worked fine. Your X300 is a modified Radeon 9600 SE on a new die, with native PCIe instead of AGP.. It was designed to sell for about $30 retail, or maybe $5 to an OEM brand PC-producer. It was intended to be CHEAP, but it is several generations newer than the TNT2 was (or the Geforce2).
It should work, but beyond that, there is no reason for a game to cause a reboot. If you do not have the blue screen fault screen set to pause and allow you to read its messages, you should fix that now. Please don't ask how to do that. Look it up somewhere on the 'net.

@Gorath Alpha. Yeah, I turned the "auto reboot" off and I got a blue screen ....... just a blue screen with no text or error (unless it was blue on blue text .... Hmm ?).
Someone please tell me the SOU pack isn't worth playing anyway so I'll not consider it too much of a loss.

There are differing opinions as to liking SoU or not. I'm not all that crazy about it. However, at this writing I just happen to be trying out a new build on it, so it has some intrinsic value. (I like playing all modules at least once since someone has gone and put so much time and effort into creating it.)jcn1112 wrote...

One other aspect worth considering is that it (SoU) was intended as the precursor for HotU to produce a level 14 (roughly) character which is about where HotU joins in. There are also some SoU-type references in HotU and interactions that may be of interest. If you aren't planning on playing HotU, I suppose you COULD just write it off.
But IMO, I think you should resolve the problem if for no other reason than the possibility of other community content using similar design mechanics and crashing for you.
BTW, when my game seems to gliche at a specific point in the game, I tap the ESC key (quickly) and usually the game will skip that script and just move on. Something rather benign to try but worth mentioning nonethless.
