Im sure Bioware arnt done with Darkspawn and Blights.  Hawke from what we know so far almost brings the nations of Thedas to war.  If another Blight begins towards the end of the game then that would have significant ramifications. Hence his inquisition.

But DAO already touched on the Blights so things need a new spin.  As we know when one of the 'Old Gods' is woken a blight begins.    What if two old gods were found and woken at the same time? Two Archdemons raging the lands?

Then you have the mother of all Blights going down where all nations need to be rallied.  This possibly under Hawke in DA2 and in future DA installments you get back to the Grey Wardens.

Theres no "ancient evil" in this game. Probably more about its nations politics and such?

hhmmm 2 blights at once have the problem that only 2 blights can still occure (i think). besides, two archdemons would propably start to fight each other.....

Well that what I was thinking, to me it sounds like Hawke will rally the Free Marches to some degree and make them a major influences. In prevous Blights they stood alone and not really got involved. If a new "Super Blight" were to occur then they would be needed as Ferelden, Orlais and Tevinter couldnt do it alone...

Why does he have to unite the Free marches to fight a giant evil though? Maybe he unites them, to become the giant evil?

Dragon Age 2 just gave me a Fable 3 vibe...If we become mayor of a town then start running around with our Romance partner while holding hands, I am so bailing.

There's an ancient evil in Fable 3.

Mayor is nothing compared to a founding ruler of the Free Marches... There is so much potential in that line of story...

What makes an Archdemon dangerous is that they unite and command the Darkspawn.

Two would be redundant.

Even then it wasn't all that dangerous (or effective anyways). It almost seems beneficial to get the darkspawn up from turtling in their tunnels where you can slaughter them en mass.

No Blights, but the Qunari will be chief threat. And the Anti-apostate-federation will be the antagonists or allies according to your choice I think.... It is made as much clear actually.

Even an Elven rebellion might be a possibility to be sided with or opposed.

In honesty I did not hear it. It is a speculation as much in line with 2 blights hypothesis. I am quite assured of it though by the cosmetic changes in Qunari made that they will be making a serious appearance..... But I agree that I can be utterly wrong...:wizard:

I can think of nothing that would be more boring than having a plot with 2 archdemons instead of one. Didn't one of the developers when asked about the changes in DA2 they were making said something like "Sure we could have made 2 archdemons and called it DA2 but we didn't want to do that"

I'm hoping we only see darkspawn when escaping from Lothering and in obligatory deeproads quest.

Speculation is fun, when I see Flemeth and hear comments like "Morrigans story isn't done" it makes me think the main antagonist/s force in DA2 will be deamons and their other incarnation, undead. I think the Quanari are pretty much stalemated in Tevinter during the time frame of the game, so unless large chunks of it take place there, I don't think they will play a major role.

I have the feeling we're going to kill gazillions of generic looking templars. And that mage players will get annoyed at having their powers rendered useless for 50%of the fights in the game

That could be really cool though! Lol, really, all because of Sten? I think it'd be awesome.

Considering the changes to the Qunari, it does look like they'll be playing an important role.

Sten could have been an advance scout who was sent to find out:

What was the Blight? And How much it had weakened Thedas.

He as much told us that an attack would happen in HIS lifetime...........

That's such a good idea. I think it'd make a killer story line.

My theory is that an Old God could awake even without Darkspawn. So it might be we don't see any more Blights as such. Only stray Darkspawn. If one Old God wasn't awaken by Darkspawn, but a powerful mage, ie. Morrigan or Flemeth, then it would probably not turn into an Archdemon, and probably it would like to awake the last one as well.

So I don't see it as set into stone that we have to wait 400 years for the next Blight and again 400 to the last. They even could be awake already, just hiding or plotting. There has to be a better reason for the Dragon Age to be named that aside from some dragon sightings over the Frostback Mountains. Maybe it is the return of the Old Gods and their kin.

Or you could be right. Hawke, Champion of Kirkwall, who stopped the Qunari Invasion single-handedly.

Awakening wraps up for the Orlesian Warden with rumours that the sixth blight is getting underway in the Andefels, so who knows? While I'm glad they've moved away from Blights and darkspawn (for the most part) in the second game, I do think it would be perfectly fitting for the fifth, sixth and seventh Blights to all occur within the Dragon Age and I'd be happy to revisit blights and the like in later installments.

Though given the wave of "IWantToAlwaysPlayMyWardenItis", I can see why BioWare might be loathe to ever return to the Blights.

The idea of two Archdemons arising at the same time is really intriguing, though. It's tempting to assume that it would be more hinderance than help to the darkspawn, of course, given you'd have two powerful "divine" consciousnesses competing for control of the horde.

If they arose on opposite ends of Thedas, however, that might not matter... and a case could be made for them being two separate Blights occuring at once.

As far as I know (although I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong)  Elves and dwarves are getting "updated" looks too.  It just hasn't been revealed yet.

I think (and am hoping) that who we have to fight will largely depend on our choices and who we choose to ally ourselves with. I suspect, as others have said, that politics will play a large roll in this installation. I guess we'll find out once we get some more information.
