Same here some of the inventory systems are clunky, I liked the original fallout ones due to ammo and everything having weight and the like, thus I was not annoyed by having lots of junk stuff I wasn't going to use, but then in dragon age and the first mass effect I picked up lots of stuff that was at the point of level I was at etc useless. To add to that yes the reward aspect is a little messed up int terms of so many times I'd open chests only to get a silver chalice, then I'd fight wolves and get health potions and more gold then what the chalice was worth, this definitely needs to be reworked. ADD WEIGHT VALUES!
All the new info I'm reading is making me pretty hype for DA2 ( almost equal to my hype for ME2 :-)

I agree. For that matter, could someone who disagrees with this explain what it is about the current inventory system (complete with vendor trash) that makes it worth preserving? Perhaps I'm missing something, but as far as I can tell, the argument is just that it's more of a "traditional" CRPG system and should be kept for that reason alone. Maybe people fear that changing X element of the traditional CRPG will lead to Y and Z -- more important things like combat and character development --- being changed too, I don't know, but there's no reason that that should be the case.
Reposting because it seems people have suddenly started equating inventory with tactical combat.
Why is inventory so important? To me it seems like a necessary but minor part of a game (unlike combat, which is pretty central to gameplay), and one that could stand tweaking if it gets tedious. I played Origins for the tactical combat, story and party interaction -- I didn't play it to collect and sell fifty dar-misaans and pairs of leather boots.

Good i gues some games do it wrong, especially crappy systems like in oblivion where the loot is adjusted too your level (but the game was crap anyways without mods so ...)
I think the inventory system should be more like in diablo. A lot of random junk but with the chance to get something special maybe even random items. Also what i think is really important, is that you find anything and not just Items you can use. I really enjoyed games where i found special items, that my charackter wasnt able to use until he was strong enough too use them etc.

Errrrrr, I'm an extremely sad person, and I enjoy inventory shuffling. I could quite happily spend an hour or longer just looking through the various things that I have, even if they are useless to me. 'Oooh look - chainmail boots! Oooh look - more chainmail boots! ' Aaah, good times. That said, I wouldn't fly into a nerdrage if the inventory system was changed. Well, maybe a little one
I do see that tactical combat, dialogue choices, narrative and customisation make a game an RPG more than being able to get lost (figuratively speaking!) in my backpack - but I find something very therapeutic about right-clicking and examining items, seeing if something has an interesting little back story, even looking at how many different types of gems I have. I miss this in ME2, as much as I love that game. x
