I'd love more text only dialogue that would expand player options and quality of the dialogue, unfortunately it's not practical in this day and age and I'm one of the few in that rare breed. Everything needs a voice these days, even the merchant whose only like is "What would you like?"

I am not against voice in general. Just imagine Morrigan without Claudia Black's voice, just wouldn't be the same. But not on the expense of other RPG elements.

Mass Effect 2

Shepard:  "Hey how you doin?

Annoying Angry Tatt girl "Listen, I'm a bad ass, did you know that?  Let me explain how awful my life was, and how angry I am over and over again.  (Press RT to badd ass)

/Shepard leans one way, crosses his arms

Shepard: "I just want to get to know my crew, angry tatted bad ass lady, oh and I'm keeping my romance options open as much as possible even tho your character is unlikible and overtattd"

/Angry Tatt Girl  stands up, paces slowly, emotes w/ her hands
Angry Tatt Girl "Well why don't you just say you want to bone my angry annoying, overly angsty cliche trope self na0!"

etc..
--------------------------
Less of these "big moments" I think is what he means.  I played a ton of ME2 over the weekend.  I explored a bunch of planets thanks to the scanning patch, finally upgraded some tech...and...

The gameplay feels exactly like it did in hour 1.  Only now instead of cover shooting, I can unleash some techs/bios  which are a bit over powered.

But it's still a game about hiding behind boxes and pressing RT to badd aZZ for 90% of the game

YOu can't change any of the companion's armor, and everyone shares the same weapon selection.  You also can barely see what your squad is doing.

They may as well have made it a solo game w/ no party at all.

Every level/mission is the same.  Run around a maze w/ lots of chest high boxes, music starts, hide behind box.  Either shoot everything or Tech/Bio everything.  Then collect glowing rods or press A.   Watch another Trope cutscene.

For a SHOOTER it feels like it has lots of depth and "big moments" but when you actually watch the cutscnes with a critical eye...

The story in ME2 blows, lets face it.  X Files meets Star Wars meets Half Life 2 meets Bab5.  Seriously, a SMOKING MAN?

The Cutscenes in Leliana's Song are 10X better than Mass Effect 2.

Does ME2 have 'Big moments"? Yes it does, 90% of them are NON INTERACTIVE

You kill a Boss and there is NO LOOT, NO XP.  THe only reason to kill things is to unlock the next cutscene.

Upgrading doesn't really change gameplay.  Body Slam is just a waste of time, more effective to just go for headshots... etc..

While I never really played Mass Effect for boss loot, I do miss the crazy amount of weapons in the first one and the armor choices.

Sure, the weapons were just upgrades of the same stuff, but it was funny seeing how high the Roman Numerals would go. I never did see the highest and I think I was a crazy high level. Miss the old weapon designs I do.

Also, I think the Illusive Man is crazy awesome.

Gee, I wonder if that has anything to do with LS coming out after ME2.

Leliana, who is that, was that the chick in Dragon Age Origin who was singing when I was trying to make nice with all my party members. That song was so horrible bad I wished I could target and attack her for experience points.

So you're saying that anything that "comes out after..." is always going to be better?  Attack of the Clones says no

I am going to love seeing the reasoning behind this thought. Please explain yourself here if you'd be so kind.

Each prior game is a learning process. Look at the leap in the interactivity between ME1 and ME2. Look at the proposed import ideas from ME1 to DA:A to DA2.

Not always of course, but a lot of the times it all comes down to learning from mistakes and getting better as you progress. The ME2 cutscenes could have been really good , but they weren't...and so the devs got better, and, voila, LS.

Right, but there you're looking at two full games. Here you're talking about a DLC which has a miniscule budget and staff compared to that of a full game. How does one improve on something when there is no real time and budget to experiment? I mean you can't improve without trial and error, at best you can maintain the status quo.

ESB was the best Star Wars not because it was later, or lessons learned.  There was a different director.

Return of the Jedi did not have the ESB director, and whaddyaknow.  It wasn't that good.

TPM, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith just continued to be horrible.  IMO attack of the clones is the worst of the bunch.

B ack on topic.

Did the devs from ME2 even work on Dragon Age?  I thought BW had split into 3-4 different teams?

The point of the thread being, ME2 having a boat load of cutscenes did not make it a better game.

Jack having a ton of lines didn't really improve the gameplay one bit IMO.

Quality over quantity; always. Mass Effect 2 may have been shorted than DA:O, but it was a much finer cinematic experience. There were few scenes in DAO that gripped me, mostly due to the lack of voice acting on the PC's part. In Mass Effect 2 though, there were countless engaging scenes.

As long as the voice actor is good, VA is welcome in Dragon Age 2, in my opinion.
