Hawke is a human refugee, and that's the story that they want to tell. Anything beyond that is individuals looking to make it easier for them to swallow.

What's defining about that is that Hawke is a refugee not that he is human. You could have easily had an elf or dwarf refugee. The lack of race option smacks of lazyness. Most Wardens are human, but they let you have an elf or dwarf one any ways.

I hope Bioware has a really good reason for Hawke being human only in story, but I'm not counting on it.

Ah, so that's the answer.  Arbitrary based off laziness and/or limited time frame or both.  Followed by justifying it later.  Thanks.

Refugee doesn't = poor, just thought I'd point that out.

That's true, but in this case Hawke has been described in the marketing as a penniless refugee.

oh I'm not disputing that in the least. However, being a refugee is not what defines something, that was my point.

Sharper features, more elegant and classy looking, thinner frames and unique hair styles.

Elegant??  I don't think that's what we're going to see, judging by the comments the devs have made about wanting to give them a more tribal look.

And... thinner?!  If they get any thinner they'd disappear sideways.

I agree. God no, not thinner. The creatures need to eat. D:

Tribal people can't have elegant features?
Anyways, they are my hopes.

As for thinner, I stand by what I said on this, elves aren't supposed to have the same build as small humans which most do in DA:O

Someone told me that Qunari have "horns" now, we just didn't see them in DAO.

They also said that elves are going to have "shells" that they wear, but that they can take them off like some crabs can, and that is why we never saw them in DAO.

They said that the Dalish have them but the city elves don't, the chantry banned elves wearing their shells after the Exalted Shell War.

Is this true?

... or just likely...

Now that the WAR gets infused into Bioware I believe I can use the comparison with their elves, while I prefer no changes at all, I wouldn't mind the elves in DA2 look like the ones in WAR

Less human looking faces and some facial hair would be appreciated.

Wouldn't facial hair make them appear more human? I don't think I can remember one fanatsy game where they elves had facial hair.

I can, Earthdawn (by F.A.S.A.) and jolly good it was too.

"Elven skin color varies wildly by tribe and region, but the most common are pure white, pink, tan, brown, and midnight black. Elves with skin of a pale green or iridescent, pearly color called cetharel exist, but remain rare. Elves produce sparse body hair, but grow luxuriant facial and head hair, often in uncommon colors. In addition to white, blond, brown, and black, naturally occurring violet, blue, and even metallic colors have been seen." - from the first edition rulebook.

I know the redesign is going to be minor compared to the Qunari but I was just wondering what everyone's thoughts were on the matter.

I, personally, would like them to look a tiny bit less human. The elves looked far too much like humans in DA:O. However I would hate them to lose the humanoid factor. Just change small things that link the race together.

I'm hoping for something like this:

Art by me

No philtrum groove/dimple. Small pupils. Longer ears. Longer neck.

It's not going to happen, but hey, girl can dream. :kissing:

Edit:
New painting

Please no Elf beards. It's just...not right. No, I have no logical basis for that argument. It's just the way it is.

The elves' hight in Origins was fine and, were beards available, that doesn't mean every male elf you met would have one. Sometimes a little shake up of what we expect of an archetype leads to a stronger affinity for the race I say.

i liked the DAO way of elven integration. So much story telling and suspension potential.

If for one wouldn't want their appearances redesigned either. Especially not in a "World of Warcraft" body style.

I like some continuity, especially if your playing in the same game world.

It cant be that hard to stick on one design or find a design thats robust and well thought enough to keep it for 2 games or a trilogy ?

What would be Tolkiens work if he would have described halflings, elves and others in every book different ? Would you still enjoy it ?

Pink wings and glitter. That will attract the female 12years old consuments and the 10 mio mark can be easily reached.
Oh, wait. And black superninja - elves for the males.
Oh, oh another idea: Let´s integrate a pet system!
Elves have cute little friends called treekatchu´s you can feed and dress up in funny clothes!

The only thing I'd like to see changed about the elves is the twig arms the females have.

Yeah, some changes are ok but I don't think your wishes about the new elf design will come true. You may whine and moan about it but I just don't think it will happen. :P

Wonderful! I love it!

@KLUME777: Yes, I did draw them. If I didn't I would of stole some of Jason Chan's work and said it was mine. Maybe NoX... no, no, Jana Schirmer! :D

Haha, yes, I'm just a broke artist on a game forum.

It doesn't matter. You can't play as one. The story takes place in human lands. The elves are not important to the story.

Kirkwall is actually supposed to be former imperial center of slave trading, with sizable elf population (so large that they've in fact overthrown their Tevinter masters at some point)
