I'm on the fourth level of Watcher's Keep, the one with the mage trapped in the machine, and I can't go any farther because I'm missing the illithid rod. The rod comes in two pieces and I only got one piece but the other is nowhere to be found. I even looked at a strat guide to find out where the other half is but I've searched there and nothing. I am 99% certain that when I first searched that spot there was no rod so it must be some sort of bug.

My only options are to reload an earlier save, all the way back at level 1, even then the rod still might not show up. The other way is to use a cheat program to give me the finished rod. I looked up CLUA but the instructions say to use that I have to find a "baldur.ini" file in my directory. Well I don't have a baldur.ini file in my directory so I can't use that.

Is there any other way that I can get this rod?

There is a baldur.ini file in your directory. Most likely, it's set to open with notepad. It should be right by the .exe in your installation directory. You have to open this with notepad and enter the following without quotes: "Debug Mode=1" under the Program Options heading. Then use ctrl+space in-game to access the CLUA. CLUAConsole:CreateItem("xxxx") with xxxx being the code for your item. Hope this helps.

The rod pieces don't "show up". They're there from the very start. One piece is dropped by some ulitharid and the other is found in a container.
But anyway, the completed rod is plot04i. If you are on Vista or Win 7 and have the game installed to c:\\\\program files you baldur.ini file is probably located among the "compatibility files", described e.g. here.

Nevermind I found the rod. The strat guide said it was in that circular stash but actually is dropped by the mind flayer. I didn't notice it on the ground because I always summons wyverns to battle and they leave behind their head which looks the same as the rod on the ground.
