Motion sickness means you don't really want a first-person view, right?

I'd give KotOR a shot first. You could start working your way backwards thought Bio's catalog until you find something with graphics you can't handle.

You can play games like Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2 as well as the Icewind Dale game series as well as Knights of the Republic and KOTOR2 as well as Neverwinter Nights and Neverwinter Nights 2.

Games like Drakensang and Drakensang 2 as well as Divine Divinity and Divine Divine Divinity 2 you could also play. Don't know about games like Oblivion, though.

I'd say The Witcher.

I really like it, though you can't customize main character, the story is great IMO.

Morrowind and Oblivion both can be played in third person as well as first person. For the story, I'd go with Morrowind, even though it's the older game and the dialogue is unvoiced. Oblivion is more like a console game where you help the main character get to the final battle as opposed to being the main character. Be careful with Oblivion, though, you may have to roll back your video driver to play it. I do.

I second The Witcher and also suggest NwN, NwN2 and Drakensang for similar gameplay.

I was turned off by the Oblivion leveling system, where you have to do counter-intuitive things so that the game would not get harder as you leveled up.

I know what you mean...but the difficulty slide is there for this reason :)

I "finished" the game with a warrior based character, done pretty much everything. I love the fact that you can carry on playing even after finishing the main plot. I think I levelled up normally without being careful on what skills to develop and I think I never lowered the difficulty once...then again it was a tank kind of character.

With mage/rogue types you might want to put the difficulty lower otherwise it becomes a pain...there is no shame in doing that ;) it's there for a reason.

There are mods that make Oblivion leveling suck less.

Urghh I just can't stand that game. The stupid combat, boring inventory and items system, and not being able to customize your character makes this game suck for me.

I approve of this post.

Another great game no one has mentioned is Jade Empire, which has a Mythic China setting. And Alpha Protocol, an espionage RPG.

Dead Space is third-person, and an awesome game too, maybe you could
give it another try. (BTW I usually hate shooters, it's like my least
favourite genre but I enjoyed Dead Space tremendously!)

I was wondering if I would like that game because I could never get into Oblivion, I can't quite put my finger on why, but everytime I went on it I wanted to come off it again, is Fallout 3 too simiar to that that I wouldn't enjoy it?

Making combat a cakewalk isnt the answer for bad design..

...nor is modding. I'd rather play a game that is actually halfway decent without a bazillion mods.

You might, personally I think Oblivion/Morrowind is the gaming equivalent to waving ones keys in front of a baby but I still enjoyed Fallout 3 quite a bit.

Fallout3 out of the box, Oblivion if you like customizing.
Plenty of great mods out for oblivion that make it actually fun not just big and overwhelming.

What a ridiculous gripe to have with a game. Geralt isn't your character, nor is he CDProjekt RED's character. He's one that's set in stone!

It's like playing a game based on The Hobbit and being annoyed you can't customise Bilbo Baggins!

I have an XBox360 and *loved* Alpha Protocol. I had no problems on the technical side of things.

It's seriously awesome. Also, someone mentinoed Jade Empire. Totally a great game. The older KOTOR series is fun, the NWN2 stuff is fun too. Particularly NWN2 and the first expansion.
