Ok this is wierd, but did Patch 1.04 add in a Purge Cell Buffer function to deal with the Memory Leak?
Because before I installed the patch I had almost no issues with the game period and that is after installing a whole bunch of textures packs and what not. Now that I put in Patch 1.04 the game stutters and lags at regular intervals, while conversations freeze on similar intervals as well. The game is acting like Oblivion did on my old pc after I had installed performance mods and activated the automated Purge Cell Buffer function.
I have an I7 core processor, 9 gigs of ram and an ATI Radeon HD 4870 Series 1 gig graphics card never had problems before, but 1.04 seems to have managed to actually make my game perform worse than it used to. Is any one else having similar problems with the patch?
Patch 1.04 making performance worse, any one else having similar issues?

Yeah, you're not the only one. I got a pretty mediocre laptop setup, but the game used to be perfectly playable with the settings turned way down until I fired the game up today.

I can't say I've noticed a performance decrease, and for me it's actually better than the previous patch in terms of load times and stuttering and all that. Running with a Core i7-920, 8800 GT and 6 GB of memory.

I never had a problem with performance with the game until this patch. Now I get total freezing of the system with every so often. That never happened with the other patches.

1.04 consistently crashed for me whereas none of the previous patches caused me any problems (thankfully, I realize others still had significant issues with them). I went back to 1.03 because the latest patch was literally unplayable for me.

Yes, I just installed 1.04 over the weekend and now truly regret it. DA:O has now become extremely unstable and performance has dropped considerably. Graphical settings have no affect on the performance issues. Before the patch I could run the game on maxed out settings @1920x1080 with no problems at all. Now I get stuttering and random crashes quite a lot.
I switched on the performance meter of my keyboard and noticed that when I initially start the game it's using approximately 42% of RAM and the game works fine, after around an hour of playing the RAM usage is up to approximately 65% and the game stutters and crashes not long after, graphical settings change nothing. If I save, exit and restart the game when it starts stuttering it goes back to the 42% RAM usage and all is well again. I shouldn't have to restart a game every hour or so though.
CPU - Intel i7 950
GPU - eVGA nVidia GTX285, driver : GeForce Ion 258.96
RAM - Corsair TR3X6G1600C7 6GB
OS - Windows 7 x64bit, latest verion.
Not sure what other info would be useful but I'd be happy to message or email my DxDiag results if needed.
Edit: To answer Nathan Willis' question from THIS thread, no other games are having performance issues like this. Singualrity, Crysis, Mass Effect 2, Torchlight, Diablo 2 (heh), Aliens vs Predator, Metro 2033 are games I've played in the last two weeks and all are working fine. DA:O was also working fine pre-1.04.

Just a quick note on memory use: the game's memory use is going to be dynamic based upon what files have been loaded into memory. It's silly to expect that the memory use while hovering around on the menu screen will be identical when you've got a large save file, lots of texture and world data, and a bunch more stuff all sitting in your system memory.

Ok, just to make things even more fun....
To set the stage -
On Friday I installed the 1.04 patch and that triggered that I should get the latest video drivers as well. So I got those, look at a post or two above, and installed those. Start DA:O and a world of performance hurt.
Now -
I reinstalled the 1.04 patch just for laughs to make sure it really installed properly and now everything is working like a charm. After about an hour of playing the memory usage goes to around mid 60's and stays there. No stuttering, no crashes, everything is maxed out graphically and all is ok....
Now I'm asking, is this an order of installation problem? A video driver problem? A patch installation problem? I'm confused...
Edit: Oh, I turned 39 a few weeks ago, so am I having my first senior moment?

I've noticed performance issues recently too, which I'm pretty sure was shortly after I installed the patch. It's still playable but definitely lags occasionally, which it wasn't really doing before.

I just purchased and installed DA:O this week and after the 1.04 patch I had a few cut scenes stutter then the game crashed on me after an hour of play time. I hope I didn't lose all my progress. Is there a way to roll back to a previous version?

I have already posted in another thread about my specific issue at hand but I alos have had issues with 1.04 that never got to me before. Graphic issues, a couple crashes and since then I have stopped playing. Waiting for a fix, but I may reinstall the patch or do a freash install of everything.

I haven't played since release, but recently thought I'd play through it again with Awakening and all DLCs. Performance and stability must have improved greatly I thought, this is gonna be awesome. Sadly, I was mistaken.
Micro-stuttering. Nothing is quite like running the game pimping smooth, only to be interupted by hiccups every two seconds. *sigh*

I lost my hope too...i thought maybe this is going to help me with my fps drop issue but seems that 1.04 is waste of time. Customer support? Nah lol. Bought the game almost year ago and still can't get to play it.

Constant crashes, AND constant problems w/authorizing DLC.

You just have to wait maybe 30 seconds for the problem with autherizing dlc to go away.
If you go to the downloadable content you can see your bioware points balance updating. If thats finished you can tell that it will let you play a save with dlc.

I have the same thing as OP (I hate how one guy posts a specific problem and other guys come in here saying yeah dude my game crashes too!!!!).
Specifically: game ran fine before 1.04. After patchign to 1.04 it does not crash-- but it will freeze for 3-5 seconds occasionally before returning to the game with normal performance. This will happen several times an hour. Game is playable but it is annoying and I'm anxious for a fix. I will try what Palathas said and I guess reinstall 1.04 over 1.04 again?? BTW 39 is not senior-- if you're 30 something you're still young (says the 33 yo).
