I'm at 170 gold. And I even purchased a 92 gold robe much earlier.

You kill, loot, sell. You also get nice rewards for doing side-quests. It's not that hard to get those sums later on in the game when there's a lot of 'shiny' items around.
If OP is level 14 and only has 10g he's doing something wrong. He's either buying a lot of gear from merchants or he isn't looting. If I had to guess, I'd say he's probably leaving weapons and armor to rot on the enemies he's killed, and probably not opening every single chest or container.

Well I am looting what I can. Some chests I can't open, but still the stuff inside sells for close to nothing. They sell it back to me for 1g but they take it at 25 silver. Do I need to have a higher cunning level to barter better?
I also try to keep stuff that I don't know if I will need later on: gems and armor upgrades. The only things I buy from vendors are mana potions, gifts and 2g max armor pieces.

Regarding Mana/Health potions; It is far cheaper to buy the components needed to craft your own potions than buying finished potions from the vendors. Be sure to store every component you loot as well. Potions can be a real money drain if you don't craft.

I'm level 14, but I've never been over 30 gold. I do tend to spend on poutices though, and some needed upgrades/runes. I imagine I would have been at least 100 gold if I didn't spend money at all, but I need to survive not save.
The Deep Roads darkspawns seem to drop a lot of coin by the way. So this may be a good area to make some money when you're there.

Not sure where you are in the game but I'm level 12 and doing the Forest portion of the main quest (The Blight) and so far I've had to return to camp twice to sell items and I've still yet to enter the wolves lair. Oh and last I remember I have 30g+ and that's after buying the manual of Spirit Healing.echodrome wrote...

All those pesky armors sure do sell well.

I've heard some of the things you craft can sell for more than the cost of buying the mats; however I find I have 0 interest in the crafting portion of this game, so I've not looked into it.
And yes, I get a little extra swag by traveling from A to B and back again.

I don't want to chance selling items that might be useful later on in the game.
In other words, if the item is in Plot Items, I would not sell it - however if it is in ANY OTHER CATEGORY, do you guys think it should be SAFE to sell?
