I see some merchants have some great items at 130+ gold. However, I'm at around level 14 and I barely have 10g. Do I have to create potions and sell them or am I missing something else?

Doing quests, selling loot.

I'm at 170 gold. And I even purchased a 92 gold robe much earlier.

Loot everything that isn't bolted down and sell it.

You kill, loot, sell. You also get nice rewards for doing side-quests. It's not that hard to get those sums later on in the game when there's a lot of 'shiny' items around.

If OP is level 14 and only has 10g he's doing something wrong. He's either buying a lot of gear from merchants or he isn't looting. If I had to guess, I'd say he's probably leaving weapons and armor to rot on the enemies he's killed, and probably not opening every single chest or container.

Good to hear, I'm around level 10 and I'm having cash flow troubles. Buying poison reagents isn't helping, but the poisons themselves are!

Well I am looting what I can. Some chests I can't open, but still the stuff inside sells for close to nothing. They sell it back to me for 1g but they take it at 25 silver. Do I need to have a higher cunning level to barter better?

I also try to keep stuff that I don't know if I will need later on: gems and armor upgrades. The only things I buy from vendors are mana potions, gifts and 2g max armor pieces.

Watch out for crafting. You can get burned if you brew up the lower-level potions because they sell for less than reagents + flask. Traps might be a different matter, but you need to run through the pricelist first and figure out what's worth doing.

What's worth noting is that I never really bought any expensive item from a vendor until really late in the game. There's some really good loot 'outside' of a vendor's list so to speak.

Regarding Mana/Health potions; It is far cheaper to buy the components needed to craft your own potions than buying finished potions from the vendors. Be sure to store every component you loot as well. Potions can be a real money drain if you don't craft.

What should be saved/kept, and what should be sold? I have a whole stash of gems thinking these would be needed at some point in the game. I guess these can be sold along with the silverware, pottery, gold/silver rings, etc.

I'm level 14, but I've never been over 30 gold. I do tend to spend on poutices though, and some needed upgrades/runes. I imagine I would have been at least 100 gold if I didn't spend money at all, but I need to survive not save.

The Deep Roads darkspawns seem to drop a lot of coin by the way. So this may be a good area to make some money when you're there.

Not sure where you are in the game but I'm level 12 and doing the Forest portion of the main quest (The Blight) and so far I've had to return to camp twice to sell items and I've still yet to enter the wolves lair.   Oh and last I remember I have 30g+ and that's after buying the manual of Spirit Healing.

All those pesky armors sure do sell well.

I'm lvl 14 (even though my bio doesn't say so) and have had some trouble with $ and finding components for potions, and I loot like a madman. I think my problem is when I see the new item at the market that looks so shiny and pretty and have to buy it. Mage tower has tons of potions, forest has tons of gear to sell. that is about all I know.

Can you (sort of) farm the gold and xp by just traveling between cities and getting encounters?

I tend to sell everything I don't need. Gemstones, armor, weapons. Like some previous posters said, certain pieces of armor can sell for a lot. Make sure you are looking at what kind of materials they are made out of. Lots of money to be had there.

Another tip is to use Leliana for stealing. It may not be nice, but she has the stealing skill which comes in handy and helps to gain a bunch of moola along the way.

Ah, I haven't been running back to sell when my pack gets full. And for some reason when I bought a backpack it didn't actually increase my inventory by 10.

I have similar money problems, which I kinda like. It's nice to have to spend my money wisely. I keep running out because I buy up every manual or skill book I can get my hands on, along with all the backpack upgrades. I learned to not buy weapons or armor pretty quickly.

I've heard some of the things you craft can sell for more than the cost of buying the mats; however I find I have 0 interest in the crafting portion of this game, so I've not looked into it.

And yes, I get a little extra swag by traveling from A to B and back again.

I didn't get much money until after level 14 when I was doing the Dwarven area. I had mid 20-30s going in but 200+ coming out... then bought some stuff... :D I started stealing a lot at that point to so not sure if that had something to do with it.

Does anyone know about what kind of items it is safe to sell?

I don't want to chance selling items that might be useful later on in the game.

In other words, if the item is in Plot Items, I would not sell it - however if it is in ANY OTHER CATEGORY, do you guys think it should be SAFE to sell?
