Just read this today, and they mention that the combat is like Mass Effect 2 only with swords and magic. Please dont tell me its turning into a twitch based style of combat?
I like the old style where you had to think what your doing instead of just mashing the mouse button.
I would prefer to have game play and story over voice acting and nice graphics. And twitch style games for a fantasy rpg will make it bland like Oblivion and Risen.

Would you mind sharing where you read this because I've certainly heard no such thing.

Oh come on really? Seeing as how 6 other media groups AND the gamers at ComicCon didn't say the same thing, it sounds like the author of that article is just raging over the Dialogue Wheel

Well, I'm curious about the UK PC Gamer preview of DA2, which the September issue should be out to subscribers now....

Well, to be honest, I don't really think a quick paced combat system would automatically mean a mind-less bogged down game. Think of "Demons Soul" for the PS3. That combat system was extremely challenging and engaging.

To my knowledge, I don't know that any press people have seen or played the PC version thus far. Maybe UK PC Gamer did, but I haven't heard anything from the September issue as of yet. It just seems that BioWare is pushing the "improved" console version of DA2 rather heavily this go around.

It was the UK PC Gamer. Just found the podcast and BioWare said its still going to keep the space bar pause like the original. phew.

Just still a bit peed that we dont have a choice of race. What about class can we choose class or has that been taken away also ?

You can still choose your class. You might want to read this thread before asking more questions that have already been answered: social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/141/index/3064634

I believe the issue is not about the wheel, but rather about combat, 1UP also said that. As far as combat is concerned, we have contradicting statements, no real official word on it (even some of these are conflicting) and no video. Personally, until I see combat videos, I wouldn't say if combat is tactical or hack & slash.

For me, I guess for many others as well, combat style is important when considering whether to purchase or not. So any source of information on that is welcome, if a previewer thinks it plays like Mass Effect but this time with swords, it's information that could be true or not but anyone can evaluate what to take seriously or with a grain of salt.

I wonder if UK PCgamer saw the console version and thought it was the pc version or something. I find it really hard to believe that DA2 is a hack-'n-slash game, especially when they've said the pc version is pretty much the same. And as javierbegazo said, there's been a lot of contradictions to what this magazine supposedly claims.

ummmmm, every single reveiw to date has commented on the combat and mentioned Mass Effect 2 in comparrison.

So no idea where you getting this 6 other media groups disagreeing from.

Seems like a pretty consistant comment from everyone thats tried the game thus far.

EVERY reveiw has created a picture that this game plays alot more like ME2 then DA:O did.

So either Bioware lieing again when they say the combat hasnt changed or the reveiwers commenting (with out actually saying it) that the focus of DA2 has moved from story focus to combat focus and the game feels dumbed down in regards to DA:O RPG feeling!

Ill wait for more reveiws but seems EVERY REVEIW you come on the boards dismissing or spinning whats said.

When do you admit what their saying is true and THEY ALL SAYING THE SAME THING?

We get it Javier, you like action over RPG, that was obvious with your defence of shooters long before you became a mod. Your the NEW Bioware customer. Not all the originals however have left and they still want RPGs and Biowares over all rep is still made on RPGs. That might change with anouther release of a crappy ME2 product but for now you cant simply dismiss EVERY REVEIW when they all say the same thing!

All speculation at this point. Though she certainly doesn't strike me as the sort of person who doesn't always have a backup plan. Even Morrigan says that killing her won't actually get rid of her.

From what I have heard, the combat seems the same in the PC version but more streamlined for the console versions. As for consistent comments from those that have tried the game, they have only seen the 360 version and their comments really have not been that consistent. To Javier, I really appreciate the job you are doing in moderating the forums especially since I have found them to be quite unfriendly since da2 has been announced. Keep up the good work :)

"It's like Mass Effect, but with swords and magic."

That's some in-depth journalism right there.

We already know for certain that you will be able to control your party members, and we already know that the tactical pause is still present. Based upon those two factors alone, it is actually impossible for DA2 to be like Mass Effect.

Trust me, I've done the math.

Every preview was also based arround the same 10min demo they showed on a console. They've either:

- Just taken the first part of the game that worked well enough to be shown (i.e. not representative of the whole game: imagine if the 1st preview for DA1 was the Fade bit, what'd you think then?)

- Put together a piece that would pick the interest of the majority of potential buyers. Since I'm guessing people don't buy consoles to read off of them, it's probably a showcase of how they fixed the awkwardness of the 1st game on consoles.

Or I may be wrong and you're right and DA did undergo radical changes, but I'm not gonna judge it simply by a few pics and the bone gnawing and dissection of every word from these short previews.

Also just because it has a dialogue wheel doesn't make it ME. I am still not sure how I feel about Hawke being voiced but currently I have a wait-and-see attitude toward it. Also I sure that the dialogue wheel for DA2 will be better based on the one-word describers which seem more appropriate for roleplaying versus ME/ME2 statements which all tended to be similar.
