The "Game Informer" article says that they are co-developing both PC and Console version. The article also stated that they are changing combat for Consoles to increase response time and improve playability for Console players. However, the PC combat system would remain largely unchanged.

Because there is a massive difference between a port and a game co-developed.
It's not "coming" it's "being made for".

How exactly is this bad?

Play Morrowind which was made for the PC first. Then came out for the XBox. Then play Oblivion and tell me which one was better on the PC.
Nearly everyone myself included would rather play Morrowind than Oblivion because Oblivion was made for the console market much like DA2 is.  Thats why it is bad.

Posted ImagePosted ImageAnd that would apply to DA2 if the game was designed to be exactly the same on both versions.  Their developing both versions simultaneously and it isn't a port for either system.  They're simply changing the combat on the console version so it's better suited to the controller (and it doesn't even sound like it's changed that much from what we've heard so far).  You're saying that this game is being "made for the console market" but they aren't making the game on the xbox 360 or the ps3 and then porting it to PC.  They're developing them all at the same time and playing to each systems strengths.

Yeah CO-developed as in for both.  The PC version isn't a port of the console and neither is the console version a port of the PC.  They are developinging both to play on the strengths of their individual platforms.  Whats the problem?

Does it really matter? Both ME2 and DA:O are epic.

Sounds more like two epic games spawned a love child and some people are having a tissy about it.

Dont look an epic spawn in the face.

I'm sure DA2 will be different on the PC and consoles. But despite claims of developing all versions simultaneously, it comes down to the fact that I have a hard time believeing they're just making a PC version with all of the bells and whistles a PC game can have, along with a different console version. Maybe I'm wrong, but its just exceedingly rare to see a PC version of a multiplatform game end up being uniquely suited to the strengths of the PC. Origins succeeded in this venue because it was a PC game at heart, while the console versions suffered.

In doing all 3 "versions" simultaneously, they're catering to the weaknesses of the console (360) when they're making their high level design decisions- its not like you're going to throw in DX11 as some vital feature. The dialogue wheel itself is an invention born of the console's analog sticks and the fact that many people don't like being burdened reading text on a TV while playing a game. Thats different than playing a PC game where you're using a mouse and keyboard and likely sitting much closer to a monitor. Sure the dialogue wheel and voiced PC works as a PC game, but its not something that was created with the PC in mind- it was made up for ME on the 360.

I hope that each version plays to the strengths of each platform- but I'm skeptical as hell, that BioWare is going to basically go the extra mile to make the PC version of DA2 as good as the PC version of Origins- or better. I'll believe their big PR talk on how the PC version retaining a unique identity when we can actually see the PC version...

They are going to skimp on a toolset this time around.

Yeah, I can't say I'd be surprised. It'll likely go "We're looking into it" pre-release. Then they'll break the news that they weren't able to work things out in time for launch but are still "investigating the possibilities."  Then they'll hope people will forget in due time only to be questioned by some obscure gaming site later on to respond with "We just couldn't work things out due to putting all our effort into making DA2 the best game possible. But all our dedictaed modders still have the Origins toolset!" <_<

Its just my impression, so maybe I'm wrong in the etiologyof the dialogue wheel but lets piece things together here and use some common sense:

Mass Effect 1 was the first BioWare game to use the dialogue wheel.
It mimics the shape and quick flicking action of spinning around the 360's analog stick.
The quick flicking action makes for quick decisions that cut back on needing to read out long text responses.
Long text responses are easier to read when you're a couple feet in front of a monitor as opposed to being farther away on a TV.

I'm sure it was mentioned in the pre-release build up to ME1, but thats just my take...obviously the DA2 wheel won't be exactly the same as ME and its functionally serves the same purpose as a list...I get it. But on PC games, you can usually just use the number keys to pick a dialogue choice- can we with the wheel? Its not a huge thing in the big scheme of things, but its those sort of console minded design choices that I can forsee leaking over to the PC version.

First of all, I'm sorry about the above posts of mine. I'm having technological issues whenever I try and quote someone. I figure a new comment is safer.

@ Brockololly: I don't think the dialogue wheel is an attempt to cater at the consoles. I think they're using it because they wanted the game to be fully voiced and it proved effective for them in ME one and two.

It was the UK PC Gamer. Just found the podcast and BioWare said its still going to keep the space bar pause like the original. phew.
Just still a bit peed that we dont have a choice of race. What about class can we choose class or has that been taken away also ?

You can still choose your class. You might want to read this thread before asking more questions that have already been answered: social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/141/index/3064634

Thanks.
How come Flemeth is alive or even younger ? How did she manage to be in two places at the same time ?

You've been told multiple times she wasn't really dead. She's a ****ing shapeshifter which has been covered many times. And she isn't in two places at once.

We get it Javier, you like action over RPG, that was obvious with your defence of shooters long before you became a mod. Your the NEW Bioware customer. Not all the originals however have left and they still want RPGs and Biowares over all rep is still made on RPGs. That might change with anouther release of a crappy ME2 product but for now you cant simply dismiss EVERY REVEIW when they all say the same thing!

Typical elitist snob. Grow up you 40 year old old man.
