Posted ImagePosted ImageI just bought the console version of DA:O today because I've been wanted to try it out, and I've played through the first floor of the Tower of Ishal.  So far, I'm enjoying myself, though I still think I prefer the PC version.  Just wanted to let you know my experience with it so far (I'm playing a mage).

Taking the original game's flaws and triumphs on the console into account, what improvements would you like to see on the console version of DA2?

I think they need to allow you to pause during battle without bringing up a menu so you can survey the battlefield.  We know that they can't do an overhead camera because of technical limitations, but I think this will help.  With the ability to pause (imagine the pause feature on the console version of KOTOR 2), it can be a bit more strategic, imo.  They could also make friendly fire more of a factor, although I acknkowledge that that's hard to do well on consoles.

The other thing that was really jumping out at me was the bad targeting, unless I'm doing it wrong.  I hope they can figure out a way to make the targeting work better becase, without a mouse, it seems a bit random.

What are your thoughts?

Targeting could definitely use some improvement. It's about the only thing that really bugged me on the Xbox version. Kind of going along with that, it would be nice to have the ability to loot while in combat. I got tired of backtracking all over because there was an enemy in the distance keeping everyone in combat mode.

Posted ImagePosted ImageLol, I think the graphics are better since I have to play DA:O on medium on my laptop (it's not a gaming laptop).  It's still playable even though everybody said it wouldn't be.  But yes, I've heard they don't look as good on consoles.

For the record, I don't think we've really seen enough to judge by definitively yet.  I like the new look, and I'm positive the fuzziness will dissipate as the game moves along; those screenshots we've seen are old.

But I digress.

Graphics is very important for me, because I lose my interest very quickly if games looks too cartoony.

So when I see the video later this month, then I will know if it's time to leave and forget about this game

The Pause and Play combat. I got slaughtered on normal because I was doing it in real time since the menu was too obtrusive also the targeting, like others said, was random as heck. I couldn't attack what I wanted to attack. Also i think it is possible to do isometric on the consoles, I remeber the original Xbox did with Fallout:Brotherhood of Steel and others.

Actually people, you CAN loot during combat. Just use the d-pad.

Everything I didn't particularly like about the console version has been addressed and revised for Dragon Age II, thanks again Bioware!

I would like a combo of the current hot key system in DA:O combined with the tactics bar I guess you'd call it from KOTOR 2.  Being able to quickly scroll through different attacks, switch weapons without opening the menu and to be able to queue up more than one action at a time would be great.  The D-pad was used for targeting in DA:O so if they improved that aspect of the game in DA2 it frees up the d-pad for the tactics bar.

There are limits to the console controls but within those limits I thought they did about as well as they could have. I think adding the quick combat radial menu that ME has will help since hopping from player to player in combat is a bit of a PiTA.

I had no problem with combat after I understood the controls a little better. What I would like is to not see the same bugs in DAO not show up in DA2. That and the graphics.

I was fine with the combat on the console versions, and I really hope some of the tactical elements remain in place. The big thing I'd like to see improved are the graphics. I don't have a PC that can run this game successfully (believe me, I've tried), but it just looks so much better on the computer it's kind of sad. Come on guys, PS3 has Blu-Ray. It shouldn't look this bad!

KOTOR 1, KOTOR 2 and Summoner 1 all did it much better w/ very similar combat systems (RTWP)

I'd just like to not be considered a lower class of player just because I play on console.

Some of the PC players on these forums really have attitudes, man!!

- Pausing without that Mass Effect menu
- Crappy quick action slots. Just give us the action bar the PC version has and let us scroll left and right.

When I used to play KOTOR, I'd always unsheath my lightsaber and swing it around out of boredom while running around. Unfortunately, doing this in Dragon Age causes you to be ridiculously clunky and silly.

Conditions being more visible

Being able to destroy barricades

Being able to use more spells by holding bottom left button instead of just the right

No AI BS (For some reason charges at a melee attacker and casts a far range spell at close range as an example).

No delays with useing healing items
