Progress has been slow on The Last Days of the Raven, but progress has been made.

I have finally completed the Thunder Bay area to a point in which I can move on to other things, and two other outdoor areas as well. These being the Neverwinter road which features heavily in the first 30 mins or so of the mod.

I have, at last, agreed the royalties for the custom music I wanted and how large a sample of these my limited funds will afford me. I have access to a Trotto written around 1400, this medieval dance number, played on lute flute and drum, will liven up my inn nicely, and La Manfredina also from around 1400 played on mediieval fiddle and lute. That will be my town music. I also have a more crisp recoding of Grien Sluis (Greensleeves), which I used in The Caravan Club played as a lute duet but I may not use this.

All of the NPC’s are clear in my mind, two of them, Honour and Harald, are new and I think have good backgrounds and motivations. I am looking forward to building these into the story.

Here are some screens from the completed areas; these are outdoor areas which I can do I think - in my own way. In LDotR I am putting a lot of effort into interiors as well and will have my first dungeon of the series. Not looking forward to that Posted Image

Lathander temple and docks from the metal smithies.
Lathander temple from the cattle market.
The travellers camp and the levels from the tenements
The Neverwinter road 1
The Neverwinter road 2

I am interested in getting a discussion going on level building in terms of layout, filling space etc. I may post on the toolset forum later.

Cheers,

PJ

Post an ad for custom music makers--I did it, and I can attest to the many, many songs in my mod. There's great interest in entering into the game design world, and fan projects such as ours are good venues for artists to prove their worth.

I like how your areas are open without feeling sparse. Populated without seeming busy. It's a nice middle ground to meet. ^_^

Thanks for the music tips guys, in the great scheme of things it was not that much money but I like free too Posted Image

I found picking music hard. The larger the choice the harder it's going to be for me ....

What sort of music have you picked our for your projects?

CW thanks very much for the comments on the areas. NIce comments make sitting at the pc for hours endlessly grey shading hillocks that little bit more worthwhile.

Some of my music I picked from NWVault. Great stuff there, overall.

The rest, like I said, was made by artists working with me. All I did was place an ad in the old custom content forums and I had folks contacting me. Maybe I was lucky?--I don't really know. It's worth considering, anyways, if you have the time. I've been working on the music side of this project for over a year now(free work is more like a favor, and so one must be respectful). I guess it's a matter of how soon you want to get your project out and, of course, how much music you want(I'm at 40+).

Hey man, I feel you about area design. I've spent hours, hours!, putting down vines. Hopefully someone appreciates that. >_>

I put some custom music from Jamendo in the first PoE module, it plays in the opening movie for instance. But for the campaign I decided to not use music at all and I've gone back and removed the music from the first mofule.

The only place I have any is in taverns/inns where there would be musicians. I will be the first to admit I have no music talent at all and the only instrument I can play is the mp3 player.

I have been using ambient area noise and places sounds to compensate.

I think Lathander would be proud! Look forward to seeing your dungeon design.

Good luck moving forward with this project. Hitting the trifecta of module releases is very impressive.

Is the Lathander temple on the hill to catch the first rays of light in the morning? Because that would be a great in-game bit for a temple to the Morninglord.

I'm going to investigate some free custom music now you have set me on that path. There are a few areas where this would be a nice addition. The pieces I have paid for are very specialist (and very good for the setting) so I am happy to have parted with my hard earned cash.

As to time scales though I like to have the mod complete in 6 - 8 months, otherwise as with my NWN projects, I get so into the next idea the others get dropped and nothing gets published. But I have plenty of time for some good music if I can find some.

As for the temple thankyou for the comments Dorateen, unfortunately this is a temple I don't think Lathander would be too proud of Posted Image

It does face directly east, in my mind the priesthood would open the front door and the sun would shine into the temple. The reality is that it is a single door and the best they could hope for is a warm doormat Posted Image
