i seem to have a problem with my npc's getting bugged. first it was during the harvest brawl, when i would enter the pin, i couldn't attack the npcs nor would they attack me. eventually i solved the problem by starting a new game because it was so early on.
now i am at the part with the lizard folk and the zombies at highcliffe castle. i can't get slaan (npc) to talk to me, i just get the battle messages about how we need to help his clansmen and how he wont fight me. now i've killed all the zombies and i dont see any other nearby. i ended up going inside the castle (without him), slaughtered everything there and looted all the chests/open all the doors, and none of the npcs will talk to me. i can't seem to trigger anything else, can anyone tell me what is going on? i don't have any modules installed, no cheats, it's just the basic package straight from the CD. i would really hate to start over again, but more importantly if this is a recurring problem i want to find a way to solve it because i don't want to get 20 hours into the game to have to restart again because of broken npcs.

Are you fully patched? This sounds like the old Quest Journal bug that should have been fixed well before the 1.17.xxxx patch level. Current version should be 1.23.1765.
And if you patch, then use an old saved game, this issue may still recur, if I recall correctly.

thanks for the reply, actually i am fully patched to my knowledged. before i even started playing i downloaded all the patches through the automatic updater. aside from trying to repatch is there anyway i can force the game to continue? i read a FAQ saying if i just kill him i can get blueprints or something to the next area but i can't figure out how to attack NPCs...
