When he comes back to attack your camp as a ghoul, that is one of the most touching scenes in the game. Telling me he always loved me, the voice acting, and the writing were very emotional. Loved it, but so sad.

Whoosits whatsits?
When is this? It never happened in my origin story, is it later? I was male, but searched far and wide for him before I agreed to leave the tunnels.
Not too far in this playthrough to restart it . . .

It happens a fair way into the game when the camp is attacked.
I told everyone to stay out of it because it was a personal thing for my elf, but they all ganged up on him.

Oh, you don't know how glad I am that someone else has found this in the game as well...I guess not many have played through as female Dalish. I was so upset in the beginning when he disappeared (I kept looking for him against Duncan's wishes).
But you're right...it was very touching, and very well done.

Same here. I was sure he would appear again in a tragic way...and tragic was, indeed.

As a male dalish elf, it was a bit anti-climactic.

When does it happen? I only saw Tamlen again while doing the Urn of Sacred Ashes quest.

A Dalish, rogue archer was my first playthrough, and there were two things that tugged at my heart strings: the death of Duncan, who saved me from myself and allowed me to make Ferelden better for all elves; and meeting Tamlen again as a ghoul. Brothers-in-arms forever!

Yes, it was touching, and still made me wonder if he could've been saved regardless of Duncan's "expert advice".
Personally i expected to encounter him in the deep roads, though. He mentioned something about an underground city while looking in the mirror.

I think that was the mirror foreshadowing, yes?

I can't be bothered to start a new game yet again. Does anyone have any videos about this? The ones on Youtube are either bad "let's take the video by pointing a camera at the TV screen" quality or have the uploader gabbing about some stupid guano in the mistaken belief that people care or want to hear it, which just completely ruins the mood.

Definitely one of the most touching moments in game, I remember feeling terrible for my elf, because she was in a 'relationship' with Zevran and he likely wouldn't console her at all.. ugh, I was sobbing. "Always... loved you... lethallen" cryyyyyy.

I'm looking forward to getting to this with my new Dalish.

I finally have experienced it with my female Dalish elf. So sad. She always loved him too.

Tamlen was a total puss. He had no self-control, and no survival instinct. Even after my character told him to not touch the mirror, which ANYONE with half a brain could tell was pure evil, he did it anyone. He deserved what he got. Also, on my next playthrough I'm going to side with the werewolves and commit elficide.

Seeing this thread makes me think of it again and that makes me sad.

I guess I need to remake a Dalish. Tamlen never did anything and went MIA after touching the mirror. I guess in hindsight I probably should have searched for him more after finding Duncan at the mirror...

My first char I made was a female Dalish elf. I also didn't want to give up looking for Tamlen. I did however give up on the character once I read the forums and found out I couldn't be Queen with Alistair. Thank you for posting this. Happy to hear they did remember him farther in the story... even though it was sad.

I haven't reached this part yet, but I'd have no sympathy for him since he and my PC murdered the humans encountered at the very beginning of the origin story and he was quite happy to go along with it.

I don't know, I guess it's how you played the origin in the beginning but I found it kind of moving, my Dalish PC finally finds out the fate of his closest friend and blood-brother only to find him become a ghoul, and to realise it could have been you. It gave the question the Guardian asks you the Sacred Urn quest more meaning, he's your last link with home and your life before you were infected and thrust into the human world, so it's like the final part of your old life blowing away.
I only wish I could have had a funeral cut scene for poor Tamlen

I found this so so sad. Finding Tamlen was very high on my PC decision to join the Grey Wardens. (I didn't believe he was dead no matter what Duncan said - and I actually didn't like Duncan on my first play through because he wouldn't help me find Tamlen)
I kept hoping and hoping I'd see him again and then he attacked the camp and I was horrified. When he begged me to kill him and told me he'd always loved my PC, I actually cried. Then Alistair said something like "Oh he's better off dead" and I wanted to smack the crap out of him. All that time he was moping around about Duncan, who he'd known for 6 months, and I have to kill my bestest friend ever, and he's like "Ooh, sucks to be you!" I'd been romancing Alistair before that, but started cheating on him with Zevran, as I was so annoyed.
Eventually my PC forgave Alistair just before I went into the Ashes test because he said something (I can't remember what) that made me think he might actually understand now. So I broke it off with Zev.
Seeing Tamlen in the Ashes a bit later was rather awful too, but he gave my PC peace by what he said. So she could move on.
This all sounds rather soap operay now I read it back.
I really liked the Dailish origin story.
