One of the things I have read in the early previews of DA2 is an attempt to make each of the three classes more diverse and distinct, and to make sure that their roles did not overlap.

While I agree that this is important, I also like having a rogue who can fight in armor and a shield, for instance, and it make me very worried about the Arcane Warrior.

One of the most hallowed fantasy archetypes is the "Fighter-Wizard", and I must say I am very attached to the concept in an old skool way.

I was delighted at being able to play something so similar in DAO, and I was now concerned that these concepts may be inaccessible in DA2, as almost everything seems to be up for replacement and er... "re-defininition".

Will we still see the existence of the Arcane Warrior? Or will Mages get some new "spell failure" regime and be unable to wield swords or wear armor if they choose?

Still hoping for armored Tevinter mage concepts...

While they may be planning to make the classes more distinct, the Arcane Warrior is very distinct in and of it's own right. Arcane Warriors, as they stand, cannot use the special weapon techniques of the warrior or rogue, instead relying on their various spells. It all balances out (in my eyes) and I'm sure they'll stick around.

This is what I think, too.

I would be happy if the issue of "overpowering" was addressed, but the concept kept.

I think the whole "Ftr-Wiz" holy cow is the one concept I would be keenest on keeping from among all the old fantasty archetypes.

DA handles magic very well, and I was happy not to see clerics running about healing people, and having just one sector of magic users.

I know they are changing elves abit, and I know that this is regarded as a very traditional elvish cliche... but I still like the old Arcane Warrior.

lol... perhaps it felt comforting to an old Dungeon Master.

Totally agree. Sudden cropping-up of Arcane Warrior threads of late, odd. But yeah, I love the concept of it and hope they keep it.

Bioware hasn't announced any specializations yet, but did mention they wanted to prevent overlapping roles. That might really hurt the chance we will see the same super tank type Arcane Warrior in DA:2 with Warriors now being the "unstoppable juggernauts".

If it does appear it would be pretty cool if it just merged with the Battlemage spec and focuses on melee survivability and personal AoE effects.

Same here. While I didn't finish my AW playthrough (stopped playing DA for a while, so I lost track...deleted him and started from scratch), I did like the specialization.

The only thing I hope they change is that 'Fade Shroud' effect (which, I think, made your character translucent). Maybe just make the eyes glow or something...the current effect makes the character look weird (and removes the details from the armor/weapons)

Hah, yes. For me, it makes the whole head transparent which is REALLY creepy because it shows the eyeballs in full, front and back, just kind of floating there along with an inside view of the mouth like a pair of those joke dentures.

What is this speculation that the "Arcane Warrior" won't be in DA2? Besides its usefulness, it's the reason why all my Mages(besides Morrigan) take up this specialization, to get rid of the ugly robes and hats.

for me arcane warrior was cool in concept but boring in gameplay. start fight, cast all defensive spells and hit hit hit.

For me the arcane warrior needed at least a tree of four melee skills besides the AW spells.
