As I have only recently heard about DA:2 to come out next year, my question here may have already been posted by another but I was hoping you all may be able to help me find some information about this next chapter in the game.  Like many of you, I really enjoyed some of the character building aspects of DA:O and grew fond of some of the companions we had.  Personally, Sten and Leliana were two of the best characters I've ever seen in a RPG game before and with that, I'm not sure I'd have much fun playing another DA game w/o either of them as part of the story.

Do you all know yet if either Sten or Leliana will be in DA:2

i highly doubt they will have any returning party otherwise they would of used the warden instead of hawke. I thinl all we'll get is cameos.

It's also worth noting that the only companion who, canonically, cannot die no matter what you choose to do is Morrigan. Every other party member in both Origins and Awakening can get killed in a way or another. So, it's unlikely they'll give them major roles if for some players they are dead. There is the same problem with Mass Effect 3 and the old companions from ME and ME2, actually.

Sten or Wynne and maybe Oghren and Shale might be supporting without forcing the issue. Others should get just cameos or not appear.
Alistair is king, drunkard or dead, Morrigan either in the Orlesian court or raising/instructing the child...
Zevran and Leliana depends on your relationship, and Loghain dead or in Orlais, and should have gotten his Calling someway though DA2.
Dog is with the Warden.
Kotor 2 didn´t handle it bad. 3 were companions, 2 cames depending on what you aid you had done in Kotor1, and 3 don´t appear or are even mentioned regarding Revan.

I've heard hints in some of the dev posts that old companions may make cameo appearances, but nothing confirming that anyone will come back as a party member. I don't think this would work out well anyway since DA2 overlaps with DAO. But, even a small cameo appearance would be good enough for me. I would also love codex entries or something to fill in some of the blanks as to what happened to everyone post epilogue.

I think that would be the best idea as well.  In my only play-through so far, my Warden became close friends with Sten and was loyal to Leliana to the end.  It would be interesting to find out some information as to what happened to the Warden + his/her romance interest after the war.

YEAH, oghren would work or liliana would work as well. Just because those and morrigan were the only characters from the squad who couldn't die.

Both Oghren (in Awakening) and Leliana can die... didn't happen to me but it's possible.
