OK, so I'm not going to get this done in time. I may be a day or two late, depending on how long I'm stuck at work tomorrow.

I've made definite progress. The main desk is UV mapped and has basic textures and lighting. Screen shot below. I still need to put in the religious icon details into the texture, most likely using a combination of painting and bevel effects.

wooo nice Morikahn (I mean the model...). Do you try to humble everyone? =)

I think we can wait a day or two, not really a problem. Thanks for participating!

Thanks Jez. Hopefully the finished product will still be worthy of praise. I'll explain how I do this in a tutorial afterwards.

Very nice desk, Mr. Morikahn. Love that wood texture.
I will be very interested in reading your tutorial, especially anything to do with actually creating good textures, as I know it to be my weakest of weak spots. I usually end up mashing together several images and doctoring that some, and then. . . well, then calling it good. ;)

I haven't DL'ed any of these things yet, so I'm looking forward to the whole package.
Just want to say thanks to everyone who participated in any way in August's contest. This community continually amazes me.

Beautiful work, all of you! It certainly looks like it's going to be a nice package you'll have to share with us when you're done. It's actually quite inspiring. I've even started watching Danmar's tutorials just so I can finally (hopefully) make some models of my own someday soon and participate, and just be able to make better stuff in general. I feel like I'm missing out on all of the fun here.

Now, if someone could just tell me what, oh, say December's theme is, I might be ready in time. Just kidding, but it still amazes me how easily you people put this stuff together, and the more I learn about what's involved, the more amazed I become. Posted Image

Six and I are quite willing to help new comers learn to model. We used to hold speed modelling exercises often, but couldn't find anyone interested in doing them. I really do recommend it as it forces you to learn to overcome areas you are weak in modelling.

I can help those interested in UV mapping. Texture work is something that you just have to keep doing in photoshop to get good at, but I can give pointers.

I would definitely like to see this become more popular. I've seen these kind of friendly competitions on digital art forums all over. As long as the contributing artists are willing to share how they do things, everyone following them learns and gets better.

Speed modelling exercises, you say? Sounds like a good idea for me - I take way too long to do everything, and probably go about my tasks in a much too roundabout fashion. I'd be interested in trying that out, certainly. :-)

I really meant to put some time in to learn basic modelling this month, unfortunately end of work, vacation and committments to other NWN projects kept it from being a reality. I finished my NWN projects mostly, but school is starting, so I don't know I'll have time to actually do this till next summer now.

That's obscene. In a good way =)

Hardly medieval, but we never said it had to be medieval so I suppose it's fine ;)

mmh I find nothing else to complain about, so... awesomeness, hats down Morikhan =)

Looking forward the tutorials!

I believe it was 'decorative furniture for a female priestess'

I figured a high priestess should have a slightly extravagant desk that flaunted the feminine form, but not in a distasteful way. I used images of Maenad dancers from the ancient Greek period.

The main texture is 1024x1024 and the smaller letter case 512x512. If you feel these are too large, you can sample them down to the next step. I'll have a link for you to grab the files shortly.

(Just want to try one small thing out with environment maps, as NWN doesn't have specular lighting).

Lovely work Mori, though I didn't expect anything less. Shows what can be achieved fairly quickly with precise modeling and carefully mapped textures.

I'm hardly in a position to give you advice, but I've found a nice effect can be achieved by applying a low level of environment mapping on the raised areas, and none in the recessed areas of a texture; giving the impression of a slight gloss/reflection on raised surfaces where light would fall.

Beautiful stuff, Mori and Jez. I really like the textures on the desk, and the lace collar on the cloak is pure love.
