Now, I'm just waiting to see DLC content adding a PC Fereldan-apprentice-house-construction-worker-in-Orlais-come-bard named Ackram or something, who is incapable of a grammatically correct sentence and sings so badly that everyone who gets to hear him only finds comfort in knowing that there is only one of him. Yet no one has been able to revert their eyes from the hypnotic disharmony except for the Grey Wardens (their constant nightmares render them immune to his particular influence).

No one knows whether to call his ability for one legendary "true might" or just "lack of talent" gone awry, but his songs cast randomly large-area-based Disbelief, Silence, Fascination, Horror, Pillar of Salt, Nausea, Uncontrollable Laughter, Null Hostility, Desorientation or Stunned (unless wearing earplugs), and friendly fire is possible.

He appears thoroughly unaware of his... ahem... effect on other people and is always ready and willing to sing. In fact, he sees himself as a Fereldan superstar, and everything in Ferelden only proves him right:

Commoners approach him everywhere in shocked disbelief, just to hear him, to touch him, to be blessed with the knowing that he... really exists. He is being dressed by the best tailors of Denerim to promote their creations, and noblemen (both stoical and those just plain decadent) invite him to sing at their festivities as it is a matter of great prestige to have him booked. Bards, impressed by his large area influence and effortless... casting... technique... superstitiously seek to bathe in his authentic common-man presence and insist on being seen beside him, hoping some of his fame actually catches on them. Simply put, he is more than a superstar, he is the ignorant prophet of the current times.

Oh yeah, and he sings about mundane things, such as work, house and half-nudity.

(Note: I guess not everyone will catch on the joke and if so, I apologize for pulling this one on you. See, there really is such a Balkan "superstar" with millions of "hits" on youtube and quite a TV coverage on his... debut... song... he is... as it is said... Fascinating. Words can't describe the wrongness of the phenomenon. He... makes... my... mind... stop. He must be the first Balkan-wide meme.)

(Note to self: Talk to my GM about using this one next time in DnD or GURPS.)

Most of these are just Slavic names. Nadezhda is a very common Russian name, meaning "Hope". Also, there's a Silent Sister named "Lenka". It's a Russian diminutive of Elena (Helena).

Oghren is most reminiscent of Ågren, which is a Swedish surname (å = river stream, gren = branch). Though, having mixed south slavic heritage (and fittingly enough for this discussion residing in Sweden XD ), I have noticed Bioware using several typical Serbian-sounding names, and not only in Dragon Age, which kind of... startles me in a funny way each time - at least now I know I'm not alone, bro..

Well seems more like its from the ågren you get when being hungover.. :D Its Oghren we´re talking about. :P

Can't say they are Serbian names exclusively because they can be found among other Slavic nations.

I'm from Croatia and my sister-in-law is called Branka. Can't say I've ever met someone called Nadezda though, I don't even remember that game from the game itself for that matter - where is she? Another dwarf I presume?
