After fully completing the BG saga, I decided to mess around with Gatekeeper, but have a concern about THAC0. If, in Gatekeeper, I set my base THAC0 to 1, and have grand mastery in say long swords, how come I miss constantly, as opposed to hitting every time I swing my sword? I produce damage around once per round. Does this bear correlation between number of attacks, or does number of attacks refer to the amount of times you swing your weapon per round?

My apologies, for I have never really understood the game rules.

As a side note, I have consulted Dan Simpson's FAQ, although, I couldn't relate my question to the FAQ.

Thanks in advance

The number of swing animations =/= the number of attacks. Extra swings are added in to make the combat look more interesting, but only actual attacks will appear in the combat log. Both your thac0 and number of attacks are displayed on your character sheet, so if you have 1 attack and a very low thac0 then you should be dealing damage once per round like you have observed.

I always thought the combat animations were a little odd and misleading until you got a high APR. It's fine once you know how it is, but whenever I try and get this game onto some casual they start screaming that their characters are missing all the time.
Perhaps I should be grateful; it's amusing.

Edit: Just to confirm that, I believe once you get a high number of attacks, all animations will be relevant to proper attacks. Attacks with ranged weapons should not be affected by the extra animations.=]
