Where does it say they have been dead for that long?

My apologies.  Several hundreds of years.

Grunt mentions in his Loyalty mission that he is a genetic decendant of three of most noteworthy warlords of Krogan history:  Kredak, Moro, and Shiagur.

Checking the various Codex and Planetary information data over ME1 and ME2 shows that all three died either during or before the Krogan Rebellions took place and that was about 1300 years before the events of "present day" Mass Effect 2.

It is not mentioned but it is reasonable to conjecture that he also has some of the genetic traits of Veeoll; another important Krogan warlord in the game mythology.

My theory is that the Collectors had an archive going of notable individuals - that they somehow were able to gather DNA from the more historically notable warlords, and provided this information to Okeer.

Reasons:

- The Collectors have been around for tens of thousands of years - long enough to witness both the Rachni Wars and Rebellions.

- Okeer says "everything they've given me was used up in my prototype." This could be a reference to the DNA samples incorporated into Grunt's structure.

- Okeer states he cannot replicate Grunt if Jedore destroys him. This indicates that he was not referring to a technical schematic (e.g. Grunt's tank) as that technology is replaceable.
