Was it ever explained why the same-sex romance options were cut out of the original, other than time limitations?

I think most people wouldn't find homossexual relations in a game very pleasant, though the gay sex scenes have been half-recorded in ME1:

MaleShep+Kaidan:

FemShep+Ashley:

Look at the dialogue, it isn't fake xD

also if you had a kaiden relationship as male shep Im pretty sure itll port over to Me3 and Im guessing you have his photo in me2? so in a way there is still a same sex relationship for me2

given that almost every BioWare game with romances includes gay and/or lesbian options (with the exceptions of the Forgotten Realms games, where it's possible it may have been a licensing issue or they just didn't feel gamers were ready for it) including both Mass Effect games (female characters can have a relationship with Kelly Chambers, regardless of whether you consider it a full romance or not) it seems likely that it really was just down to either time constraints or just an "it doesn't fit the character" decision

if you're referring to my comment I did specify "gay and/or lesbian". as far as I'm aware both Mass Effect games and KotoR only had lesbian options

I think if it helps, there should be an "Are You Interested In..." option on ME3, which basically consents that youre okay with whatever goes on. So if you chose women it enabled romantic convo with women but not men. In case one comes on to you by mistake and weird you out.

rayvioletta, I wasn't referring to your comment specifically. Just the way people seemed to be not taking the Femshep/Liara relationship into account.

Hi Tehk: they essentially have that in the sense that you wouldn't start making saucy comments to a guy unless you swing that way anyway.

I find it rather interesting that you can have a gay relationship in Dragon Age Origins. But no relationships at all in DA Awakening or a gay one in Mass Effect 1&2. Was the company a bit nervous about doing such? Or was it the fact that the only two human males were meant to just be for a female Shepard? Or could it be that a gay alien-human relationship would be a bit too wild to deal with? Thinking about the statement about Krogan's having quads. (lol) After all, the female aliens do look more human that the male ones.

Asari are monogendered, they don't have male or female genders. So essentially Liara is an "it" if it makes it more comfortable consider it female like most people do.
