When I first heard about a pre decided character i was devistated, but as i read more about it, it started sounding cooler and cooler. As it happens my charceters names of choice are usually Hawk, Hawkens or hawkhan. So now i actually get a whole story made especially for my character so to speak. Any hoo arguements on wether this is a good or bad thing aside. How do you rate Hawke so far. I myself think he will turn out to be one bad arse hero, and I cant wait to start slaying.

Actually that's not true.  Hawke is not a "pre-decided" character, much of the story is going to come from how you shape the character throughout the game.

No. John Marston is the coolest hero ever (or at least the coolest in the past few years). Well he's not really a hero, but he's the coolest protagonist ever.

Hilariously, John Marston of Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption is a perfect example of why I'm so excited for this game. BioWare's great at making quality games and they have a real knack for creating characters that I care about.

The simple idea that BioWare creates a past for the character and personality while allowing choice....I'm really looking forward to that. I hope Hawke's past is clearly defined and as important as it was to Marston's character.

Wow, you saying a character that's not out yet is the coolest ever?

lets hope hes not badass unless your saying something badass, and is able to portray what each individual wants him to sound like in his voice

I don't know anything about her/him so it is too early to say - I don't like voiced protagonists because I am very picky about the voice and afraid that I won’t be able to play at all if  the protagonist happens to have unpleasant ( too high,  wrong timbre, etc.) voice

I'm sure he'll be a cool hero - because as a player it will be partially in your hands to make him so - but coolest ever? No, I doubt it. (since we don't really know how "heroic" he'll be I won't limit myself to pure heroic comparisons) Conan is the coolest hero in the last century; strong, cunning, manly, full of great mirths and great melancholies - awesome. (wish I could come up with a good female heroine to compliment him) James Bond is a super cool hero; suave, dangerous, over the top cool.

Hawke? Way too early to guess, but no way he'll match up with some of these people.

Conan the Bond is the best movie ever. Seeing a Barbarian walking around using high tech gadgets to rip people apart in a tuxedo? What more do you want?

I'm envisioning some badass over-the-top exaggerated action sequences played to an electrical guitar background score, with some epic slow motion.

Have you read any of the original R.E.Howard stories?  Conan kicks arse.

I know some men like to play at the idea that you can't be intellectual or sophisticated and still enjoy stories of manly men doing manly things and getting the women at the end, but the one does not preclude the other.  I'm very educated, enjoy classical music and jazz, collect art, act, roleplay, know more than a few operas by heart, and love watching Conan kick the snot out of demons or giant apes, all the while with a beautiful woman hanging off his arm. (or in the rare case, kicking arse beside him)

Most men who proclaim their dislike over such things feel threatened by them - they believe that if they admit an attraction to these kinds of characters they are somehow labeling themselves as intellectual or culture throwbacks ... much the same way homophobes fear to even talk about homosexuality, terrified doing so will somehow undermine their heterosexuality.

We humans are allowed to be multidimensional characters with interests less imaginative people might consider contradictory.
