My game runs smooth as glass with my sound card disabled. But with it, it becomes choppy as can be.
What can I do to have sound?

Please provide some more information so people can help you identify the problem. Which version of Windows are you using, what kind of sound hardware and which driver version?

A matchup of an antique, obsolete P4 and an HD 2400 isn't CAPABLE of a "perfect" performance in anything much more graphically challenging than Bejeweled.

Official minimums

CPU: Intel Core 2 Single (or equivalent) running at 1.6Ghz or greater
AMD 64 (or equivalent) running at 2.0Ghz or greater

Video: ATI Radeon X850 256MB or greater (obviously, this is wrong)
NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT 128MB or greater (and this one is wrong also)

(Note: IMO, the practical choices for the two video cards above should be the Radeon X800 Pro, and the Geforce 6800 GS, at least, for small textures - it will take a Radeon X1650 XT (or X1800 GTO) for medium or better textures)

As you can see, it's got about one third of the performance of the practical small textures minimum.  And if you want eye colors and blodd splatter effects, you have to upgrade to an X1650 XT (or perhaps an X1800 GTO) to get the Medium Textures:

This game runs fine and smooth without sound. When I deactivate the sound card, everything is perfect. I do not know how it runs, but it does.

What kind of sound card do you have, an add-in card like the ones from Creative, or the default sound chip on the mainboard like the ones from Realtek?

Because a P4 is so obsolete and so slow, it has to be matched to a $200 audio processor that includes full decoding onboard.  The P4 architecture is too old and insubstantial to both try to run this game and to decode the audio for the inexpensive varieties of audio systems at the same time.

No one has produced a PC with that old of a CPU in it for about five years, and already back then, it was horribly outclassed by anything from AMD newer than 2004 or so.   It's now literally so obsolete that you can get a one like it from a stateside thrift shop for maybe $85 - $90 these days, complete.

Don't know what  version of audio drivers you have, but you can download the latest (released 2007) from creative

I agree about the fact that I need to buy a newer sound card. But is there a possible way to tweak my sound device's configuration file to help to improve the performance a little more? With the sound card disabled, the game runs as smooth as glass even on medium texture and graphics. I tried it on an onboard sound card and still gave me the same problem. I will be getting a new system at the end of the month though.

You're just not going to find any Magic Bullet.  You have the proverbial Sow's Ear of an old and now worthless (nearly) PC.  It cannot be transformed into a flying silk purse .  It has too old of a CPU, too slow of a CPU, too insubstantial of a GPU, that is pretty doggoned old, itself.  There's nothing you can "download" to change what is there.

I disagree. The game runs smoother than on some dual core CPU's. The only time that

it slows down is when I disable the sound effects and music on the in game menu. I am not stupid enough to expect it to run like a John Deere anyhow. I promise within no time, I will resolve the issue.
