Sorry about the title as it is hard to quantify a feeling in 10 words or less.
I am working my way through ME2 right now and i feel that some additional RP elements to the paragon/renegade system are overlooked. Concerning Jack and Miranda or Tali and Legion as these characters are set up to not like each other the game relies totally on the accumulated points in order to trigger the desired conversation options for the happy outcome. My idea still uses that system but allows the player to influence the points required to trigger the desired conversation options.
Just because i am a dick when i do Jack's loyalty mission i always take Miranda as the third squad member. Just as when i do Miranda's loyalty mission i take Jack. The game does not recognize this and i think in the future it should be taken into account that the player is making a difficult situation more difficult, and to a degree reward the player. After you do both loyalty missions the game triggers the cat fight. My suggestion for consideration is that either the cat fight does not happen, or the points required to resolve this situation in the happy fashoin should be less. My rational for this is Jack by having Miranda's help should soften her position on Miranda and vice versa if you use Jack on Miranda's loyalty mission. Helping another person especially one you do not like to put to rest the ghosts of the past that still haunt them should have a positive effect on thier opinions of each other.
Now as for the game design maybe in the future the missions could be designed in a way that doing this will definatly be more difficult. Taking 2 biotics on a mission designed with enemies that would be immune or only moderatly effected by the biotic attacks would be a way for the game to still have some level of difficulty that the player could choose to deal or by taking say Grunt as opposed to Miranda would make it easier.
The player then could decide on when they want to make the difficult decision. They could decide on difficult combat by taking two biotics and therefore the cat fight either would not happen or require less points to resolve. This way the player gets the appearance of having more impact on the world and the characters than just some nebulous point system. This idea could also be applied to any pair of characters that have predetermined animosity towards each other, by doing this the player gets to control the level of animosity far beyond an arbitrary points system. I am not looking to make these decisions easier, just add another tool that the player can choose to use to influence the outcome of some of the more difficult decisions. This is an RP element that i think ME2 and to a degree even DAO misses entirely. For example Allistair tanking Flemeth, or Morrigan going into the fade during the Redcliffe encounter, this should have an impact on how the characters react to each other allowing the player to decide what the characters feel for each other by how involved the player makes the characters interact.
Just a thought
