I created a monk and got my ass handed to me, then I made a sorcerer and found him underwhelming. Then after much brainstorming I decided to run a dual class kensai 9 /wizard x. After playing a while I felt proud at having chosen such an excellent combination. I got the most standard companions. I just COULDN'T find it in me to say to Jaheira and Minsc to leave me, or deny entrance to Aerie and soon after Keldorn became the last member. I was sad that Yoshimo had to end this way and though I had no need for Imoen I brought her with me to potect her.
This was the party with which I finished the game with, I propably had it easy for a first run for even if my magic tactics sucked, after I remebered he could cast dispel magic (which strangely always seemed to succeed) and true seeing Keldorn would always provide a solution.
After BG2 came ToB (strangely I have no recolection of ever using any HLA and everything but the final battle was a blur) I finished it and that was it. I obviously had no need to play this game again as i had truly mastered it.
Just a year ago a friend told me he was replaying bg2, which I thought was pretty lame. Still I strolled in the internet and found the old forum. After a while it was obvious I hadn't mastered the game, I hadn't even scratched the surface, my big kensai mage was never played to his potential and it turns out the other npcs were pretty interesting as well. I soon fell in love again. This time I decided to explore all the things I didn't the last time ( and actually use sound tactics this time). After a wild mage that didn't go very far and I serious amound of research in these forums, I made a neutral evil black half-orc swashbuckler and got korgan, edwin, viconia haer dhalis and sarevok. The most memorable part was when I provoked the order of tyr to attack me and killed them all for no reputation loss:D. I finished throne of bhall but didn't feel through yet.
So I created a undead hunter for solo (had intelligence 10 and after loosing numrous times to the illithids I stopped) and then another archer this time I decided to try valigar, mazzy, keldorn, Jaheira and Yoshimo (to actually correctly use his traps). It turned out to a fun no reload run but I stopped before taking the warring guilds quest.
These days however I am thinking of continuing it.
In short thank you for making this game fun for me again. And if anybody wants to share his baldurs gate experience please free to do so.
