Seems like all weapon types except "Sniper Rifles" have gotten a game-changing weapon. Here's my idea:

I don't know about the ammo, fire rate, ammo pick-up, clip size, or damage modifiers, but this sniper rifle would, once the enemy's defenses are down (when stripping down shields, barriers, etc. the weapon would act like any sniper rifle) and health is left, each round that makes impact will embed itself in the enemy and then explode (may or may not kill the guy, but there will be an area of effect) after a couple seconds (delayed explosion). What do you think? Stupid or not?

How does the new AR compare to the Collector one?

The Collector Assault Rifle is NOTHING compared to The Mattock Heavy Rifle.

NOT. EVEN. CLOSE.

The Mattock is much stronger. Both are pretty accurate, but the semi-auto fire gives the Mattock the advantage of choice.

Think of it this way-

The Collector Assault Rifle peppers people with bug bites.

The Mattock Heavy Rifle is like a grenade launcher in comparison.

Yeah, I finally picked up an old soldier save at the collector ship, and picked up the Widow. Playing Insanity and using the Mattock, the Phalanx, and the Widow I burned through the platforms on Insanity. By far my fastest run ever. My Revenant soldier is JEALOUS! The Mattock is purely ridiculous... and I love it!

I'm not disputing its effectiveness if you can hit the target. It just doesn't show up on ever kind of target making it kinda pointless to its use.

Can you post some screenshots please?

Someone has probably already noticed this or its just me but why does the pistol's laser sight stop working when you fire from cover, it works in the open but when im in cover im firing blindly because i have no laser or crosshair of any kind. Ive tried aiming from cover with no enemies around  and its clearly not showing the laser sight, might want to check it though incase it is just me but that may explain why people are having trouble with it?

That sounds like a bug.

The laser should always be on when you're aiming (holding the gun in front of you). If you are backed into a tight corner where the camera shifts heavily because it's bumping into a wall, it may shift, but this should be a rare exception and not part of normal cover based combat.

Screenshots would be appreciated.

I dont like using the Mattock on collector missions because they have husks in them and husks come in groups and the revenant is a much better weapon due to rapid fire. But otherwise its a first choice for me!

Christian Norman: id take screenshots if i could but ive never gotten it to work for some reason, either that or its saving in a folder i cant find. Also your not posting my full message, its not happening every time, just on occasions and quite frankly i'd preffer a crosshair.

But you're a soldier, which means, in that situation, you have shotguns along with heavy pistols AND cryo ammo which deals with husks. It's very easy to just spam Revenant which defeats the purpose of having a variety of guns, which is why the Mattock is a very welcome addition in my opinion.

It's also nice to see that Bioware learned that the "pew pew pew" sound effects of the ME2 guns just sounded silly, and made these sound like proper projectile weapons again.

Now if we only could dispense with the subsonic tracers on supposedly hypersonic projectiles...

On Vanguard class, I don't really like the Claymore because it takes way too long to cycle shots.  The Mattock makes the AR weapon pickup on the Collector ship quite handy, as it's perfect for the situations when damning the torpedoes would be imprudent.  Firing as fast as possible also makes it good for the situations where baddies get too close when you're in a standoff too, instead of switching to the shottie or resorting to bashing them.

And here's a screenshot for the squaddie who benefits the most from the Geth plasma shottie...

These are really fun to use, and powerfull, I deleted my last playthroughs and have a load of new characters, this will spice things up, and make the game alot more fun, shotgun isnt great for vangaurd playstyle, but I think it would go well with a sentinal. The pistol is just fun aiming, and great for me to get headshots at a distance with my characters who dont have sniper rifles.

I can confirm Wraith4001's observation at least on the Overlord mission: At Hermes Station, when you first enter the station, the Phalanx's beam disappears when it is pointed at the glass window directly opposite the entrance. I would post screenshots except I'm dealing with a serious issue of having my Hammerhead clip through the ground (details in my post at the ME2 PC technical support forum).

Just basically confirming what others have said about the new pistol and the laser sight, it does indeed disappear. I was doing Kasumi's mission tonight and thought I had chosen the wrong gun because there was no laser sight.

I have also encountered the lack of a laser sight when shooting from cover with the M5. It first happened on horizon when you first encounter the husks. I was behind the square planter on the right next to the building. I would include screenshots, but never searched the forums to find out exactly how since it isn't simple. This only appears to happen in certain places though, and not everywhere. Aside from that, I am having difficulty shooting at range with the Phalanx. Dot's on, but i'm missing... I prefer the other hand cannon for its slightly higher rate of fire, but it is less powerful with less ammo???

The Mattock has nice power, but the ammo is too low for my preference. Didn't use it for long with my soldier. Very nice weapon for Grunt though. Using him as my muscle on my current sentinel play through.

Can't weigh in on the Geth Shotgun. Have not taken the time to put it through its paces.

I also experienced this, but only once.

I think I was between 2 covers, like an L with me being close to the center. As I popped from cover, my lazer was gone, till I moved away. I would try to recreate the situation for a screenshot, but I'm playing the 360 version.

I love the Shotgun and the Assault Rifle, put the pistol not so much. I like it, but it TOO accurate. And since I don't have all the Heavy Pistol Upgrades it's weak too. I'll stick to predator.

But the Shotgun is WOW!

The shotgun is RIDICULOUS.  It can one-shot a guy with full shields on insanity: no other weapon comes close unless you count heavy weapons.

Ridiculously good, right?

mattock was totally my idea! I mean, I never said it aloud or posted it on this forum or anything but I thought of it first. Your welcome everyone. now we just need bioware to read my mind for some clan urdnot related dlc. do it. all those urdnot soldiers are just standing around with no turians to kill or clans to subjugate. I wanna see them doing stuff.

I see a perfectly good laser beam targeting an enemy, so I have no idea what your complaint is.

I'm another who loves the Mattock. I've only used it on the last mission in the Collector Base, since that was all I had left to do. I'm an adept who chose AR on the C Ship, and who wished she'd chosen Sniper Rifle instead. Since I had the Locust I never found a reason to use the AR. However, I barely used anything else than the Mattock on the final mission, and even used it to kill the baby terminator at the end. Love the feel of it. I've gotten used to the automatic Locust, so had to retrain myself to a semi- but the power was awesome.

I rely on my talents/powers most of the time, so the small ammo capacity isn't a problem (and I can switch out to the Locust if I ran out anyway). It's great with Scions. Love.

Its supposed to show a bright blueish dot on the target when it hits a solid surface and normally/most of the time does. But it still clips though lots of models like this.

Does the dot even matter when you have a clear shot like that?

I don't even pay attention to the dot, I just use the laser itself to target the enemy.

Here's my initial review of each weapon.

1. Mattock: It's like a sniper rifle without the scope but is a semi-auto that is able to fire at full auto if you click it fast enough (would advise against this unless it's a harder target and there is plenty of ammo around). It hits fairly hard so you shouldn't need to fire at the fastest rate much. The downside for this weapon is that it has limited ammo compared to the other assault rifles other than the Vindicator (It has more ammo but fires in 3 burst shots and so can only shoot 32 times compared to the 64 shots of the Mattock.)

It's also makes the assault rifle a good choice again for classes that use SMGs like the locust if you want to snipe somewhat.

The Mattock is a good squadmate gun from what I have seen.  Garrus was killing stuff fairly easy when I was doing the Derelict Reaper mission testing out the weapons.

2. Geth Plasma Shotgun: It's the longest range shotgun yet and can charge for a super strong shot. It has the longest range yet on a shotgun and it has a decent amount of ammo. I'd say it's a good soldier choice for shotgun and think that the Eviscerator or Claymore shotguns are better for Vanguards.

I think this could potentialy be a good squadmate gun for the more squishier squadmates since it has a longer range.  I haven't tested it out on squadmembers but I'm thinking that this will be the case.

3. Phalanx- It's a fairly nice pistol and hits the hardest amongst all the pistols. It has the same clip size as the carnifex hand cannon if I recall correctly so ammo can be a bit of an issue for those that prefer to just point and shoot alot of shots at something.

A drawback is that is relies on a laser sight when you are 'aiming' and while it hasn't bugged for me yet, I've heard people say it has for them. This can be a problem if you are trying to aim for headshots and the target is fairly decent distance away.

This looks to be a good squadmate gun since ammo or the laser sight won't be an issue and is a good gun to switch to on enemies that have alot of armor. when the locust isn't good enough.

Overall, I think this is a good DLC pack to buy.  I'm going to restart my soldier again so I can get the widow now and use the new DLC guns.
