After giving the new weapons a whirl I must say that I think that they're pretty good. I'm used to Semi-Automatic rifles on repetition so the trigger pulling is quite natural to me. It's now my Infil/Soldier hybrids main weapon. The shotgun is just awesome, a quickshot or charged. I'm not a huge fan of the organic style of weapons but it's now my choice of shotgun for my Soldier, still assessing how well my squad uses it compared with the eviscerator.



The pistol is a nice change, I like the sound it makes when the laser appears and I've never had any issues with seeing what it's targeted at. Just waiting to see some of the cut scenes where you draw a pistol to see how it folds etc.. All in all, 160 points I don't think I'll regret spending.

Good stuff! Just bought it and tried the weapons out...only for them to be put to one side until the Shadow Broker DLC comes out :P



@BW: For ME3 can we please have the option to have laser sights on all the weapons and the option to turn off the crosshair..pretty please :D

Can you charge, sprint or cast a power with a charged shotgun,

Do squadmates ever charge up when they use the Geth shotgun,

And if you're cloaked as an infiltrator, will enemies notice the laser sight of the pistol?

Haven't downloaded it yet; I want to find out how much the Shadow Broker is going to cost before I start buying points. Although, I look forward to the Mattock for my sniper/soldier. Although I don't see the reason to remove the cross hair for the pistol; the point of a laser dot in real life is to quickly tag opponents when the opportunity arises, but if you rely on it as your main targeting guide, you'll spend half the time in the battlefield looking for your dot rather than squeezing the trigger.

Can't really answer your first questions but for this I would assume not, although I've not tried it out. The laser is probably a aesthetic design choice replacing the reticule when aiming. You're not seen when aiming any other weapon at something whilst cloaked, I doubt they'd adjust it so that you would with the pistol. Feel free to correct me if this is not the case.

You really wont miss the dot, it's got a nice bright blue laser beam attached to it.

They're nice guns, but feel pretty overpowered (even on insanity).

Anyone noticed yet that, lately, BioWare is making overpowered gear. The Kestrel Armor also feel overpowered. It has 3 stat upgrades per piece, boosting your shield by 25% and 30% melee dmg. Even if your a long range specialist (like infiltrator or adept) this armor is the only armor you'll ever need purely cause of the shield boost.

I play mostly on veteran for casual playthroughs and I've not once suffered shield bancrupty with this armor (Also duo in part I use Geth shield boost bonus power with the 10%dmg modifier right before battles).

And now the Firepower Pack adds the overpowered weaponry. Do I feel a Mass Effect 2 expansion around the corner and BioWare trying to buff us for the next great threat in the galaxy that links ME2 to ME3?

I'm not complaining that they are (or feel) overpowered, I'm just saying I might need to crank the difficulty up a notch for my casual playthoughs now...

Also, on a personal side note, I would like to see a brand new sniper rifle though. Since release there has been no new sniper rifles released. (not counting the incisor rifle since it was originally a Digital Deluxe DLC that recently got released to the entire public)

Lastly, I would also love to see a sleek version of armor. My infiltrator feels to clunky with all that heavy armor. Something skin-tight and sleek, but with a badass look that it can protect you in prolonged fights.

I have not noticed any difference using Kestrel armor or not, on Insanity (other than melee damage bonus), armor makes no difference, I just wear what looks cool :)

As for weapons, I think the pistol is nothing special, but the asault rifle is super powerful. The shotgun is also very powerful, but by no means clearly the best. It feels more like heavy weapon with standard ammo than shotgun.

The Geth Plasma is the stronger and more useful shotgun IMO;  considering the damage it can do at all ranges. The claymore is only stronger up close. Jacob and Grunt own with the Geth plasma shotgun combined with inferno ammo.

yeah i was wondering specifically for the vanguard because even on insanity the geth plasma shotgun can one shot certain enemies on insanity, but at range, because it fires projectiles and not a buckshot, i find it to be vastly superior to the claymore, but the fact that you cannot charge the weapon in cover makes me doubt as to whether its a better choice for vanguards. I also found that as long as a target is sighted with the geth shotgun, a shot will find its target. For all intensive purposes, its shield penetration seems to be higher than the claymore, which makes it better for killing merc enemies without waiting to down their shields on insanity. That is, they dont go flying as a result of the charge impact, leaving them WIDE open to get plastered at point blank range. opinions?

ok so a charged geth shotgun blast will kill a collector drone at mid range on insanity.

I could not one shot regular Blue Suns (level 30, Insanity, all upgrades) with the Geth Plasma gun, unless I charged it before Charge, then it one shotted easily, but since you cannot charge it up right after you Charge a group of enemies, Claymore kills (one shot = one kill; 100% of the time) faster assuming you hit all targets, making is the superior choice for me as far as Vanguards go since 9 out of 10 fights take place in close range. For Soldier and Sentinel I prefer Geth Plasma Gun.

I put the weapons through their paces on Zaeed's loyalty mission, insanity difficulty. I had two damage upgrades and a shield penetration bonus invested into the Mattock, but the Phalanx and shotgun were stock. I took one armored turian down with a single charged shot from the shotgun. Considering I don't like shotguns, that's enough to win my approval.

The room before the end, with the YMIR mech, used to take me a good ten tries, and maybe two or three hours, to get through. But combined with the Kestrel Armor, I breezed through it in about twenty minutes and only a careless death or two because I was rushing.

The pistol I do not like one bit. The difference between it and that red hand cannon is negligible, and it has an awful laser sight to boot. The line is pretty easy to follow, but that dot is an absolute pain to see. I want nothing to do with it.

The Mattock, though, is beastly. It makes the entire pack worth it. Some things about it feel off, but it's a really good rifle. At the start of downloading, I was thinking I was going to have to swap back to the Revenant to do the Shadow Broker DLC just because I'm more familiar with it, but after putting it through its paces, I like it enough to keep it around for that mission.

for the new assault rifle - 16 in the clip and 64 in reserve - semi auto

the shotgun is 5 in the clip and 20 in reserve (with extra rounds upgrade) - although a charged shot consumes two rounds out of the 5 in the clip

and the handgun - 6 in the clip and 24 in reserve

The pistol is essentially the carnifex with a unique twist. Nothing special, but won't be the number one thing you regret buying while drunk.

Too bad the Phalanx pistol doesn't fold/unfold. It looks so big on your hips compared to the other pistols :P



I rarely use shotguns so I have yet to try the Geth shotgun. I'll be sure to do so when I get around playing another class. It's been a while since I touched ME2 so I'm trying to get back into the game (and my favourite class always was the soldier <3 )



The assault rifle is pretty decent. Nice damage, good firing rate when quick tapping but just a bit too low on the ammo count. I also don't really like the way it looks when holstered but that's just personal taste, I can overlook it because it's a great weapon >_<

I love the new weapons, especially the Mattock! The Mattock's precision is simply amazing. It kinda feels like an uprated Predator in terms of accuracy and thermal-clip capacity, though. :P

As much as I love the Mattock, I feel bad that it's replacing my Collector assault rifle. I paid extra for Mass Effect 2 Collector's Edition, and now, the Mattock has rendered the Collector assault rifle obsolete for me. I want to keep wielding the latter to get my money's worth, but I simply can't deny the astounding performance of the former. Goodness, I don't know what to do. :P

What's the point of spending your hard-earned money on DLC armor and weapons if they don't boost stats sufficiently? 25% shield boost is nothing compared to getting Predator or Colossus armor from a random sludge crate in the first game.
