So I just now found out that you're supposed to be able to upgrade his inventory. Problem is, nearing the end of my second playthrough, he's never had new stuff to sell even once, so I don't know for sure what side quests are supposed to upgrade him. I'm *guessing* that it's the Terrified Merchant (never seen anyone named that, so I assume he's the one survivor that gets wrecked by Crushing Prison the instant I open the door every time), the trade option from Defending the Land, and Lillith from Trade Must Flow.

I strongly suspect that not saving the first merchant locks me out of upgrades for the rest of the game, at least on XBox. Can anyone else confirm/deny?

You upgrade Yuriah's stock by upgrading Vigil's Keep. Upgrades are as follows:

1. During the initial assault by the Darkspawn at the beginning of the game, you come across a man who is being attacked by Darkspawn. He appears inside the first courtyard, up some steps on the left side of the area. This is the Terrified Merchant. Saving him gives Yuriah an immediate upgrade to his stock.

2. Complete 'Cost of Doing Business' by giving Voldrik Glavonak 80 Gold.

3. Complete 'What is Built Endures' by finding the Granite in the Wending Woods, then informing Voldrik about it.

Keep in mind that this is not a complete inventory change; instead, a few new items are added to Yuriah's stock.

Interesting. So defending the trade routes does nothing?

It may, but I have no reliable information on that. Only a mention from the wiki that an item can only be gotten by defending the Trade Routes. Given that it's the only item with this caveat, I'm not willing to start throwing it around just yet.

This is my second run  on Awakening and still can't get it right or is bugged. According to Wiki, Yuriah's the one who sells Paragon Dweomer rune  but he doesn't

I saved the Terrified Merchant (Yuriah mentioned him), gave Voldrik 80 gold and the Granite.
On "Defending the land",  I chose to protect the trade routes (this is advised in Wiki to get all 3 upgrades). I saved Lilith and the Qunari in Silverite Mine is already on Vigil's Keep. I talked to Woolsey and finished "Trade must flow".

After that, Yuriah said something about having new stuff. Great, but no Paragon Dweomer rune. So, wtf....?
Did someone actually ever saw that rune tracing ?

Didn't the wiki say that you have to complete all of the merchant's guilds board quests for another upgrade. The final quest is called "Rumblings from Beneath" beat that, and you get more stock.

Either I missed that note or is not there anymore. Under Yuriah entry I'm sure is not. The other article about merchants and stock is Defending the Land.
Anyways, thanks, I'll try that.

Problem with the third "upgrade" that adds the last few Paragon tracings: The guild quest "The Rumbling Beneath" is buggered and may never trigger. If it does not, you won't see the last few items added to Yuriah's stock. In my current play-through I have all of the Keep upgrades and all of the guild quests done but I can't get this last one to trigger nohow...
It may have something to do with which side you chose between the "Smuggler's Run" and "Law and Order" quests.  With the latter, you get the key and unlock the smugglers cove from the hatch outside of the walls.  With the former, you enter from the Inn, getting the key from the barkeep.  I've read somewhere that going into the cove for the first time from the pub is the trigger for the "rumbling" quest (that's what posts it on the guild message board).  If that's the case then it's not so much a bug as it is just poor game design (IMHO).

I wonder if it's possible to first get the key from the bartender, open the cove and THEN side with the guards... I'll try it out. (I want those stupid paragon dweomer runes)

It's not only poor game design, it's also a) not allowing the Awakening sources for modders to fix all those bugs BW can't and probably won't and B) why the hell is there only ONE patch for awakening after almost 7 months now? ...

Edit: No, it's NOT possible to open the cove and siding with the guards...

Then I guess there is no way a good player can get this rumblings from beneath quest :bandit:

Maybe taking the opposite approach? Try siding with the guards but when you get the key by killing the "shady character" outside of the walls, take it to the Inn and try opening the hatch there first? I'll give that a try tomorrow...

No, it doesn't work. I tried every possible approach.

You can get the quest when you side with the bandits. No quest for the good guys.

The best thing about this is that it won't be fixed; ever! Why do I say that? No information about 1.05 and I really do think BW won't patch something like this.

Yup. Only way I got the quest off the guild message board, as soon as Smuggler's Run is 100% complete. That's the trigger and there is no way to get the quest if you side with the guards, as far as I can tell.  I noticed that Yuriah announces his upgraded inventory via dialog change so it's obvious when you've met whatever the requirements might be.

I found the infinite gold/XP bug in the cove still. If they haven't fixed that, I don't expect they'll fix anything else...

Not to mention that even if you get the masterpiece and paragon dweomer rune tracings they are still bugged and give you armor runes instead of weapon runes.

I've created a table that lists the tags for all the rune tracings, for use with the additem mod. It works as a workaround for when Yuriah won't give up those tracings, you just add them yourself. Project is here: http://social.biowar...m/project/3589/

Don't expect much. It's just a word doc with tables.
