The Mattock's volley doesn't seem to work for me. I slowly press on the right trigger and when it's about half way down it just fires a single shot just as well as pressing fast. Am I missing something here?
Fire it like you fire a Viper Sniper Rifle. Just pulse the hell out of the trigger as fast as you can and it will unload as fast as you can pull the trigger. In fact I think it fires a good bit faster than the Viper can.
Well I think the idea behind the voley is not oversqueezing the trigger for faster rate of fire. The shot fires when the trigger is less than half way down...probably closer to a quarter of the way down and squeezing it the rest of the way doesn't do anything except waste time so I think that when Ms. Norman said to feater the trigger she simply meant to lightly press but fast. I was originally under the impression that pressing it slower would create a semi-automatic effect where 3 shots would fire at once.

yeah, it fires faster, and with more accuracy than the Viper Sniper Rifle
I just tried it out against some Geth and the Mattock is a freaking monster. You get a sense of how much damage it can lay down against a YMIR mech; but I couldn't really gauge how fast it could take down smaller targets.
My Commando rolled into a room with three Geth Troopers, lined up my first shot and fired up Heightened Adrenaline Rush (which doesn't allow you to get off as many shots as normal Adrenaline Rush) and by the time my rush wore off two of them were dead and the shot which killed the third one was already on its way. If I'd been using Hardened Adrenaline Rush I probably could have downed 4 or 5 of them.

I think thats what she meant. The Viper is very similar to the Mattock since you only need to pull the trigger about half way down for it to fire, so that you can fire more rapidly if you lightly pulse the trigger.
Here's a quote from Christina...
"With the Mattock we wanted to provide a novel firing experience, so we added selective fire. This is a fairly minor change, but it has a big impact on how you use the weapon. Each squeeze of the trigger lets loose a single, powerful, accurate, shot. Feather the trigger and you'll let lose a precise but powerful volley of shots."
To me "feather" implies lightly pulsing the trigger and if you lightly pulse the trigger that sucker unloads.
Personally, I freaking love the Mattock. I still need to try it out in a situation where its ammo thirst is a major concern though (try it out against some Husk swarms). So far it seems like even though it has fewer rounds than the Vindicator the fact that it does considerably more damage per round coupled with the fact that it doesn't fire in five round bursts makes it seem somewhat less ammo hungry than the Vindicator. That said, I'm being accurate with it, if you start spraying the thing haphazardly you would run out of rounds even quicker than you would spraying the Vindicator. Definitely a gun that rewards accuracy.

I removed it because youtube degraded the quality.
With some tinkering, I'll have them back up.

I'm curious as to what the damage multipliers will turn out to be. Also, is there anyone that prefers the Phalanx over the other two Heavy Pistols?

I do too. In my video, the last mech of my first run had a BEAUTIFUL end, all thanks to the precision of the Phalanx.
