A "None" weapon option?

Naturally I can't speak for everyone, but I personally like my equipment to be very streamlined. I don't like carrying excess anything, and in Mass Effect I always feel over armed. I'm often carrying 4+ weapons, which is highly impractical with my playstyle.

Now don't get me wrong, I love the fact that the weapon options are there, it gives players options so they can play to individual tastes. I just wish there was a "None" option when selecting your equipment. I often only use a Heavy Pistol and Sniper on missions, so why can't I leave the SMG on the ship and have more ammo supply for my preferred weapons?

Would anyone else like to see an update/pack for this option, or am I just being silly?

[EDIT] If you support this idea then please put it in your signature (that goes for every good idea you support really) as this will be eaily noticed on any topics you reply to, thus making it easier for BioWare to see what we as a community want.

The idea of "leave one gun behind so my others can have more ammo" is interesting, Id definitely leave my pistol behind for more LMG ammo.

Yep. Agreed. Why should I  carry a heavy weapon? I never use it..

So you don't use them to take down mechs, gunships and other larger enemies?

I'm not saying we don't need heavy weapons. I just think every weapon should optional. Just like in real life, you don't take an RPG into a hostage situation

this is arguably the thing i want most from bioware, when playing as a soldier, i hate how bulky the weapon look on my back, i cant even see the cool armor, plus i only ever use assault rifles and snipers, i personally hate the heavy weapons, maybe i would like them it i could take them off!

I think I've always preferred that Mass Effect allowed complete control over what you put in your weapon slots.

The way I figure they could explain it is different classes have different things installed on their armor that take the place of those magnetic attachments for weapons.

For example, if an Adept is only allowed two weapon slots, it would be because the other components of the armor that are weapon slots are being used for something biotics related.

Kinda silly, but w/e.

Not just me then. That's good. More options is definitely what BioWare is going for (particularly looking at the Firepower Pack), and "None" really should be a valid option.

Well the firepower pack does give you 2 good options. The geth shotgun is actually useable from range which none of the other shotguns can do so this is good. And the AR is better then the other 3 probably about tied with the revenant for usefulness.

I agree...Sometimes, I would rather remove a couple of weapons, especially the heavy weapon.

If you have a Flashdrive, there's a way you can do this----Mod your save.

Using Gibbed save editor, you can customize your loadout for Shepard. To remove a weapon, simply replace it with something you already have, i.e. if your a Soldier who wants to get rid of the Heavy Weapon, simply change the heavy weapon slot (#6) to duplicate your pistol. Since the game will not let you have duplicate weapons, it just ends up removing the Heavy Weapon.

I personally remove the Heavy Weapon 90% of the time, although having the Cryo Blaster on Shep's back is kind of cool because it looks like it could be a large power-pack that's part of his/her suit.

i love my nuke launcher it has saved so much time on certain missions i personally would not go anywhere without it. as for leaving a gun on the ship i actually like the current system

I really like the idea of leaving my heavy weapon behind.. Often I pick a heavy weapon that doesn't look ridiculous on Shep's back, but rarely use it!

Well, they constantly state in the game that all "thermal clips are universal" which means that all your weapons should have the same pool to draw from.

Of course, all of this just draws more focus to the fact that ME2's supposed ammo system was not well thought-out or implemented. If games more than a decade ago could have weapons using multiple types of ammo of different calibers. Fallout in particular springs to mind for me, pretty much every gunpowder-based weapon had the capacity to use both armor piercing or hollow point rounds and drew from a single stack/pool of each type of ammo, and this game was not an astounding technical/programming achievement by any stretch.

I love Heavy Weapons (Arc Projector ftw) but I am always in favor of more player choice, so I support the ability to leave them at home. You can always run across the weapons locker on a tough mission anyway if you feel like you screwed up and want to put it back in. I mean come on, there was even one in the Collector Vessel.

I would certainly give up having heavy weapons for being able to carry more ammo.

personaly i think the soldiers weapon rack thats attached to sheps back is waaaaaaay too cluttered. (visualy its very unapealing to have so much junk on your back) now i can understand that people are not bothered by it as i am but i would apriciate it if i could leave the heavy weapons on the normandy. i hardly ever use them and they take up way too much space on the characters back. also its kinda weird and annoying to see your weapons constantly intersecting one another (its a CG artist thing)

yes give us a weapons None function especialy for the heavy weapons.

Agreed, though preferably with a fair trade off, like higher sprint speed, or more ammo capacity.

Actually that might be a cool idea, as an infiltrator I just used my widow and Hand Cannon, even on the boss fight. Hmm I kinda like the idea

ehh, on isanity you need those weapons, especialy early on when when your weapons arent upgraded, having weapons to go to when your low on ammo is a life saver. I only play soldier, i cant imagine what insanity is like with an adept.

Actually I felt that adept was the easiest on insanity. Singularity+warp+Hand cannon was deadly. And then add Thane and Samara on the suicide mission and it was the easiest playthrough. Those husks and collectors never stood a chance
