How much control (if any) will we have over Hawke's age?

Will Hawke's date of birth be written in stone, or can we fiddle with that?

I would think, as long as Hawke wasn't still a child when he fled Lothering, that he really could be any age at all.

Considering Hawke is an individual with a sister and a backstory, it wouldn't make sense to fiddle with it beyond a few years. Besides, you age another ten years throughout the game.

Depends on if Bethany is the older or younger sister, then you'd either be older or younger than her age. In Origins those were the age limits too, broadly speaking, I'd expect something similar.

I doubt they'll say exactly how old (s)he is supposed to be. I've only played 4 Bioware games but none of them specifically stated how old the PC is. You can estimate to within a few years the most logical age, of course, but still.

Sure, but our age could differ from our sister's by as much as two decades, and in either direction.

And how far back does the backstory go?  If only to Lothering, and if Hawke's age in Lothering isn't established, then we'd pretty much have free reign.

Even in DA:O we could only fiddle with the indicator of the age: Complexion. So I say no go.

The only possible restriction I can see right now would be if Bethany ever establishes that she is the eldest or youngest sibling.

Edit: Herr beat me to it.<_<

Baldur's Gate said you were 20 (which was absurd if you were playing an elf or dwarf).
Some of the DAO origins required a fairly small range in order to remain credible.
KotOR allowed almost any age.

They've really run the gamut in past games.

Not true.  My dwarf noble had a white beard and patterned baldness.  He was easily in his 50s.

Like I said: INDICATOR of age. Your father must look younger than you.... Seems like some kinda disease you caught up due to your... unusual..... habits... :wizard:

Baldur's Gate: 20.
Jade Empire: 20.
Mass Effect 1/2: 29

Don't forget Hawke's voiced, and ur voice changes when u get older so if Hawke has a 20 something voice look a bit odd for him to be 50

Hawke could be a blood mage who found out how to stretch his/her youth out, or somehow keep his/her cool voice while still aging normally. Perhaps tried some new experimental potion w/ lyrium in it that changed his/her voice back to the way it was in his/her 20s/30s.
See? Mages are so much better. Lyrium solves everything.

(David should think about adding in a different wonder thing, rather than everything involving lyrium.)

Someone who played the demo said Hawke sounded like Cailan. So that puts him around...late 20s early 30s?

I'd say the game stretches from mid 20s to mid 30s (ten years). Of course people can give their characters an old look but that doesn't change their age. Young cousland was just becoming an adult, no matter if someone gave him a 50 years old look. It is ok for me that people can break their own immersion if they choose to, it is their immersion after all and not mine.
