Blue ringed npcs ruin the games combat, they produce MAJOR clutter in combat, they take away exp from your party.

The fun of the game isn't the actual visuals of the combat itself, the fun is the strategy and seeing the occasional death animations as a warrior or rogue.

Either make the blue ringed npcs yellow temporaily so you can get exp and actually control them or don't have them, they **** up the games stratedgy and cause major stuttering which just looks horrid and sucks every bit of fun out of the games combat.

Bump this thread if you're ****ing tired of blue ringed npcs stealing your kills and exp, cluttering the battlefield and ruining the the strategy that makes this game fun, if bioware sees how bad this is and how many people hate it I'm sure they'll have sense enough to change it.

You speak of strategy yet those NPCs are PART of it, yes you can loose out sometimes, it happens, you arnt the only people fighting, if you loose out on the kill, so be it. Unless your power gaming, there is usually more then enough XP to negate a few lost enemies to NPCs.

They should not be made part of your group, they ARNT part of it, they are allies, you work with them, not control them. If your strategy is so stagnent that a flowing battlefield is too much, then the NPCs arnt the problem, you are.

"Oh our homes are under attack and whilst your spent the last 15 minutes convincing the Smith to repair our items, convinced a whole bunch of people to fight at your side we've decided to stand over here and let you take on the undead horde by yourself. Y'know like how a real battle would work."

You can't get rid of non-party NPC's. The "clutter" on the battlefield is part of the game and part of the story. Granted they shouldn't be in every battle, that would get annoying, but they were in a low percentage in origins. I am leery of xp per kill anyway, but it's a very small issue. You could make it so that xp was given regardless of who or what killed it if it was really a concern.

The first 3 playthroughs I was really pissed off by those "blue ringed npcs" and I completely understand the frustration. I reloaded every time I had whittled down a big enemies health bar only to have one of those bastards turn around at the last moment to deliver the killing blow - it just s*cks!
But now I realized that you can easily get to level 25 by the end of the game by use of the supply crates and crafting materials for the elves I don't care as much; the only ones losing out are the werevolves, since I don't help them massacre the elves anymore. It is not ideal and they should change the way xp are given for combat.
The "major clutter in combat" is annoying, but since they already said that they have changed the combat so that you and your companions do not shuffle into position anymore before delivering a blow to your enemy, it shouldn't be such a problem in DA2.
If they do not occur to often I really like those battles now, sometimes they can have an epic feel to them and I do hope there will be some great ones in DA2.

LOL finally someone knew what I was talking about. I'll try the supply crates this time around as I'm trying to make a even better character before I import to origins. Good to know that they are fixing the stuttering before attacking though. I wouldn't mind if exp was given as well but I couldn't have said it better about how you get them down a ton then like 4 blue rings come around and kill him before you have any chance to.

While we are on topic anyone else notice how sometimes certain temporary companions won't give your group exp when they get kills IE Daveth, Jory, Eleanor.

Yes, those who are by default not part of your group for very long don't get xp and do not provide them for the group either. I always set their tactics to self - any -> wait and do the fighting with the rest.

OT:
Another thing about Daveth that really bugs me: He is supposed to be a criminal and thief who got conscripted by Duncan and he can't even pick locks!

I know what you mean. I was in the forest with him and I was like wtf when he wasn't opening the chest.

anyways I checked the dragon age wikia and apparently elf roots give no exp for the consoles :(.

Which sucks for me, I would get it for pc but my graphics card sucks so until a dish out a 1000 dollars or so the highest thing I can run on pc is morrowind.

Behold the great Hero of Ferelden who has single handedly weakened many zombie with several chops from his great sword so that a fat bartender can jump in and kill it with a dagger.

You see I can be sarcastic as well douche

You only have "blue" NPC's in DA:O with you in a few parts of the game don't you? There's the dogs in the Tower of Ishal, and the Redcliffe Militia/Knights (I don't remember anymore). The only ones that didn't go off and get themselves killed by AI stupidity were the doggies. The Knights are stupid enough to light the oil on fire and then start fighting in the middle of the flames. The militia is well... the militia. You essentially have to do everything because if you just sit there the militiamen get wiped out.

I suppose being able to control them would be nice, or at least give them general orders like hold position, attack, defend, jump off a cliff etc.

Would've been cool if Bioware made the battles with participation of blue npcs so hard that you would actually need them.

The XP stealing is poor game design and should be remedied. Other than that, I see no issues with having blues.

They don't bother me except when they hurl themselves into raging balls of fire. I want that stupid Helm from Teagan, dammit, and you're not helping!

the only issue I had with blues were the mages in the tower that "helped out" when you make that fire elemental appear (you know, when you try to open the basement after clicking on those statues on a upper level). The bastards kept using area effecting abilities (most notably: Fireball) and kept killing my party. Ended up having to use force field two of them so they couldn't "help".

Oh yeah... Those mages. They kept killing the children standing around cause of their poorly timed and premature fireballgasms... Protect the children by incinerating them. Irving will be proud of you.

There was also Leiliana when you first meet her, but she didn't really do anything.

Is there any way to unbump a thread if you think the OP has a horrible idea?

I'd start by not asking rhetorical questions.

A number doesn't pop up over their head indicating experience gained, but I'm pretty sure they do give experience to the group for their kills.

Yeah...I just stopped caring after a while...as in the third reload.  I decided Murdoch and his crew were all in fact horribly suicidal, and I was doing them and their families a favor by setting them all on fire.

Maybe something as simple as making them immune to friendly fire could do it.  Stupid villagers.  Too flammable for their own good.

Strange. I always got the helmet on the game and no one ever died in my game. Maybe you should do the village thing later or maybe you are just horrible at friendly fire. The undead aren't THAT tough :bandit:
