Spoiler !!!:

If you talkt to Mordin after finishing his loyality mission you will realise that he has no racist feelings towards the Krogans. Quite the contrary he even don't blame them for the Krogan Rebellions, Mordin thinks the only one to blame are his own people, the Salarians.

They uplifted the Krogans during the Ragni Wars, but the Krogans were not ready for space travel or dealing with other species.

Mordin thinks the Salarians played god and created the entire mess.

In Mordins eyes the genophage is the lesser evil compared to the extinction of the Krogans, which would be a mistake like the extinction of the Ragni.

During one conversation you 'll get to know that Mordin feels guilty for his work for the special task group because he studied different religions after his work for stg.

"Ah, intelligent move, surprising from Krogan"

I mean damn, I know in general Krogan are aggressive but is he THAT ignorant? I mean this guy really do believe that the Krogan are literally an inferior race and everytime a Krogan does something that seems intelligent he acts surprised or either tries to deny it.

Whats up with this dude?

Krogan aren't known for being long term thinkers, or thinkers in general.  He's not insulting their intelligence (after all they can do calculus) he's remarking on their behaviour.  He's not saying, "Oh look the moron got an answer right" it's more, "Wow that's not the kind of behaviour I've come to expect."

There's a lot of evidence to suggest the Krogan choose not to be thinkers, we've seen they're capable (Wrex, Okeer, Mechanic to an extent) they just don't want to.  Being surprised by outlier behaviour doesn't make you racist or ignorant it makes you realistic.

Doesn't anyone notice that every squad member has a bad past? Even Shepard (i.e. he died).

All I know is I saved the research and told Mordin to help cure the Krogan and the mission summary said something about using Krogan shocktroopers against the reapers.

If the average Krogan is thick as a brick (and they are), then it's not "racist" to be surprised when one is very intelligent. He's a scientist, he deals with population averages and statistical inferences. This isn't like on Earth where every ethnic group of humans have extremely minor variation in characteristics between them, these are actual-factual aliens with a totally different genetic structure, history and culture behind them.

I personally found Mordin one of the most interesting characters in Mass Effect 2 - his storyline (loyalty mission to be specific) has a lot more depth and interest to it than even the main storyline of the game (not that I don't like the main storyline tho).

Mordin goes against the grain of many people's sensibilities... he is a true pragmatist.. he's not evil or cruel, he is merely a realist (one that I personally felt troubled by and disagreed with him.. but I understood his actions and could even appreciate them to a degree).

The drama of Mordin's loyalty mission is definitely some of the best voice acting in the game - namely from Mordin, but also Shepard too.

On a related note, quite a few days ago I happened to record all the dialogue aspects of his loyalty mission so I could rewatch them at my leisure... If anyone is interested in watching it again without replaying the game, feel free to check it out: www.youtube.com/watch

Mordin is probably one of the more interesting party members in ME2 but everytime he opens his mouth about Krogan I wish my Shepard could just slap him in the back of the head. Example, this is a paraphrase of what he said about the Krogan after his loyalty mission when EDI mentions how Urdnot's clan is getting better and expanding

Calling Mordin ignorant is worse than ignorant. It is stupid. Mordin is clearly one of the most educated people in the universe considering Krogan behavior and physiology. He spent years of his life with the STG analyzing Krogan behavior and birth rate, running numerous simulations of possible outcomes of a Krogan population boom. He regarded the data and made a decision.

As others have stated, he did not act out of malice or racism towards the Krogan, but rather reacted to the facts of their behavior and biology. It's not racist to be surprised when an ape learns sign-language, or when a wolf shelters a human child that has been abandoned. Species have typical behaviors that they follow, and not acknowledging that fact is just plain stupid.

Edit: Oh, and V-rex is 100% correct regarding Ashley. Epic rant man, epic.

im not an expert in genetics or krogan biology or anything, but it seems like they could have just engineered the genophage so it would just reduce krogan hostility, maybe by lowering their testostrone (or its equivalent) levels slightly. sure it would have taken a bit longer to stop the krogans from advancing, but that is what nukes are for. there were so many other solutions, neutering them was actually one of the not so good ones.

Adjusting hormone levels has greater effect that you assume. If you genetically cut testosterone from a human, they will develop into a female. If you reduce any of the other number of hormones in humans, it can result in developmental problems like retardation, sterility, or stillbirth, especially if you're attempting to alter behavior that way. Even if you succeed in altering their behavior in this manner, the Krogan culture would just beat them into soldiers anyways, considering that the warlords in command are upwards of 500 years old with another 500 to go, resulting in a net progress of 0 as the passive ones die in combat, and the aggressive ones survive to breed.

Additionally, the genophage only did as Mordin described, it artificially adjusted Krogan birth rates to compensate for low mortality rates due to being removed from the harsh conditions of Tuchanka. This way, the Krogan have an opportunity to evolve into a culture more suited to dealling with alien cultures naturally while still preventing them from becoming a threat to galactic peace again.

Honestly, considering the other options, Mordin probably is correct in that the Genophage was the best option for both Krogan and the rest of the galaxy.

Mordin wants to help the krogan survive. To protect them from the galaxy and the galaxy from them. His methods are drastic, yet effective. I doubt there are many non krogans who knows that much about them and apreciates them for what they are as much as Mordin.
