No, you don't need the physical game disc of Mass Effect 1, just a completed game save on your hard drive. Mass Effect 2 will give you an option in-game to import your saved character, and all the choices you made will carry over.

I'm not sure. If past BioWare titles are any indication, you'll be asked questions about what happened in the last game, and your answers will determine what will occur in the game. (Somebody else who actually created a new ME2 character would be really appreciated to chime in on this.)

That would be me.
No. There is a Default plot you have to follow.
Wrex is dead, Udina is on the Council, and Kaidan or Ashley is chosen by your gender. (If you are male it will be Ashley. If you are female it will be Kaidan.) {Just so you know}
Also, you don't get your level 50/60 bonuses either. But you do get the bonuses for having a completed Mass Effect 2 save.
You can always import the same ME1 save (for the bonuses) to change the class and looks but you can not change your name or sex. The story will always be the same, if you do this. If you want even more customization then you need to complete another playthrough of ME1.
Hope I helped

Your infomation helped alot. Thanks:O. And i totally agreed. Bioware should some how let us decide our story when we created a new character
So that could save us from playing ME1 over and over again
. And i also like Wrex really much
.I don't want he dead in ME 2

It is a small hard drive. However, depending on how much free space you have, the odds of both games installed causing system slowdown are pretty low. Those 88 GB you mentioned, do those represent the space you currently have available? If they do, then I don't think there will be a problem. Even if the slowdown does happen, hard drive lag doesn't have a noticeable impact in Mass Effect.
My old hard drive had a total capacity of 160 GB. I know I could run Mass Effect well even when the drive was almost full, with less than 1 GB of available space.
If I were you, however, I'd try to do the same thing I did: upgrade the hard drive. This will be very easy to do if it's a SATA type hard drive. Drives of this type are very accesible price-wise, even the models with the highest capacity.
If you decide to uninstall ME1, all you need to do is to keep your save files. That way, you can import your characters to ME2 even if ME1 is not installed.
