I have all four of the lockpicking talents (Device Mastery), yet there is a single chest on the fourth floor of the Circle Tower that I cannot open. On the map, the chest is located in the second room to the left of the entrance (when coming from the third floor). I get the "insufficient skill" message when I try to unlock it.

I've already completed the Broken Circle quest, and just returned to the tower to get some previously inaccessible loot and do the "Watchguard of the Reaching", "Summoning Sciences", and the "Five Pages, Four Mages" quests.

Is this a bug? And can anyone tell me if there are any crucial Circle of Magi (or other) quest-related items in that chest? If not, I'll just let it be and carry on.

i think your cunning skill also effects it. Maybe your cunning isn't high enough.

it's your cunning, the higher it is the better

There are also two other chests on the other side that are also insufficiant skill. I have Leliana at Master Level and foud this most annoying. I will check the cunning Stat. Although pretty lame to not be able to open a chest at Master Level. Anyone know whats inside?

yup, cunning. I had trouble with the 2 below that even with all 4 lockpicking skills. I moved on up the tower until I leveled, Added 3 points to cunning, and then I could open those 2. still couldn't get the one on the 4th floor. Continued game until I leveled, added cunning, came back, opened it. Persuade is the same way. Never did convince a child in a closet to tell me his secret.

Thanks - I will have to up the cunning attribute - however it sits at 27 now.

iirc i opened the chest with 28 cunning now i got 30, and i wonder if theres any chest that need more than 30 cunning, i already opened chests giving 70 xp, which seemed to be the most difficult until now

Your cunning modifier is your lockpicking base check value. Each level of the skill adds +10 to the check.
