hi folks,
i got one question i never tried out myself with the toolset. are there scripting commands to control the player's camera? like if i want to mimic the static camera the inifity engine uses. this way i able to overcome the building constrictions of a farplane. this will save time plus you could use more polygons onscreen. also with custom tilesets you don't have to deal with roofs.
or could i just simply use the overland camera with my areas?
mimic static camera

The overland map camera setting will be the only way to get a fixed camera angle.

The overland map camera setting can be set to any height/angle you desire. It's simply a locked fixed camera that the player can't override by selecting the other views. I don't think it can be dynamically changed ingame though, so no zooming in for something, then back out., but someone will probably come along to prove me wrong.

Well, there are script functions to set the camera angle but they are only useful for cutscenes.

the problem with the overland map is that i have to set the current area as an overland map. are their any game restrictions combined like not having the inventory or something similar?
could i set an interior area as an overland map?

You can define an interior area as an overland map. I did notice a couple of quirky issues with the UI when doing this, like the quickcast menu not coming up and the right mouse click on the character causing the examine box to come up rather than the menu. They seem to be more nuisances than significant limitations. The character screen, inventory, and journal all seem to be fine.I would have to play with it more to know if the quirks can be removed or if there are any other showstopping issues, but for the most part an overland map for an interior "works".

Phew, it took a lot of searching to find this, because I'd forgotten what nearly all the relevant terms were! Here's an amazing example of fixed cameras; I'm pretty sure he uses the Overland Map, if memory serves:
DragonLanceNights Solace by the builder known as PDubulous (at least on the Legacy Bioboards). Look at the tree-top videos from Feb-Mar 2010 (currently on page 2 of the blog).
I have no idea whether this would be useful for your situation, I just thought I'd bring it up while I could still remotely recall enough to search for it.
