lol sry, i have wind 7 64bit.

This is not a problem diagnosis thread but rather a "How-to-install" topic.

I suggest you post a separate thread here in the technical support forum.  When you do, furnish all your system specs as recommended in the Start Here sticky.  You can procure most of these specs by running nwconfig.exe and editting the output to include any specs which may be either incorrect or missing according to the system specs available through your Control Panel.

This is odd. I clicked on the
English patch 1.69 for NWN with HotU and downloaded the 400 Something Meg file, and it turns out to be for the Linux Client. I'm currently downloading the NWNEnglishHOTUUpdate.exe which is only 310 meg.

Now I am running off the old disks, each expansion bought seperatly. Have I made a mistake, or is the link itself just possibly wrong. Not that I don't appreciate the work done in this thread, as I respect the heck out of the OP.

Edit. The first link indeed gives me English_linuxclient169_xp.tar.gz . IT is labeled as English patch 1.69 for NWN with HotU. I hate to bring this up, as I know a lot of hard work went into it. But since I'm not running Linux, but Win 7 64 bit, One may want to double check on their end. Once again, much respect for making this thread.

UPDATE:

If you are having trouble finding a patch then this link is currently working.  files.bioware.com/neverwinternights/updates/windows/english/NWNEnglish1.69HotUUpdate.exe

UPDATE 2: With kudos and thanks to Skildron, a complete list of patch links

Skildron wrote...

These are the download links for the latest NWN Linux client patches and resource files:

English patch 1.69 for NWN with HotU

So, it does actually say it's for linux *cheeky grin* .  As you discovered, update 1 is for windows.

But thank you for posting. Clearly, I need to highlight that more as you are the 2nd person to make that mistake in as many days.

Have fun :)

UPDATE: 6th Sep 2011

Original post updated to be clearer as to which patch is which.

Added more links to patches for different OS and links to dialog.tlk versions.

Huge thanks to Lightfoot8, Skildron, Coolty3000 and Amethyst dragon for links and getting the patches safely stored on other sites.

TO PLAYERS:

Remeber, this is not a troubleshooting thread. Most of the people who really understand technical issues don't check this thread, so go to NWN 1: Technical Support (Self-Help) Starts Here
and then start a new topic in NwN 1 Technical Support

Good Luck

I don't know if this belongs here, but I just installed the Diamond (or deluxe edition). No go for play, it simply wouldn't load. Installed fine, though. After a lot of experimenting and hours of frustration and lots of coffee, it turns out that the files on the disc for Hordes on the Underdark in my GB (UK) edition of the Deluxe (Or Diamond edition) were corrupt. I got a windows error about xcooooo5; I googled it and ithe results could be inter-preted as corrupt files. And sure enough, the minute I used my old SOTU and HOTU discs, it worked. [It still worked with the SOTU disc, though, from the Deluxe Edtion, but better safe than sorry...)

Any if someone who has the Diamond (or Deluxe) edition of this game can't get the game to load, it might be because of corrupt files on the HOTU disc from this edition (or maybe something went wrong in the transferring to harddisc process)....

Anyway, it is working now, and I'm excting to finally being able to play this game :)

I'm trying to install NWN1 deluxe edition (the main game, SoU, HoU all on one disc). I can't use the first method (transferring from my old machine) as I no longer own it.

I followed step 1 - installing directly to C, and not making any shortcuts. When the progress bar gets to 100% it says insert disc 2 - there is only one disc. So I pressed cancel - a lot of files have been written to the C drive.

Step 2 - run the patch. Which patch is this? On the disc I tried the CriticalRebuild application and that did nothing. There is a folder data_shared\\patch - but this folder is empty. It's compressed so I tried extracting all, but it's still empty. Any ideas what patch I need to run?

I tried downloading NWNEnglish1.69HotUUpdate.exe but that says Neverwinter Nights was not found, please reinstall from the original cd - which I can't as it keeps asking for disk 2 :(

Any help anyone can give would be much appreciated.

I'm having a gaming renaissance at the moment with X-Com, Baldur's Gate, and hopefully NWN :)

Boshbok,
in the deluxe edition there should be 3 cd's for the original game i think...and then 1 cd for each of the expansions.....at least mine is...

If you dont have all the discs...just buy the game at GOG.com

Well I have 1 DVD for NWN1 and expansions, 1 DVD for NWN2, and an audio cd for NWN2. I paid £30 just a few years ago for it, and don't really want to spend another $10 now, as I have the physical product in my hand.

Did you try pressing OK?  Might be a dumb question *grin* but computers are not intelligent, sooooo *grin*

Everything else you say means nwn is not installed. Press OK,use a different drive, check the disk on someone else's machine, clean the disk?

Good Luck :)

I pressed ok, and the pop-up just asks for disk 2 again. I've tried cleaning it, and it's still not working. I've looked at the disk and it seems fine - no scratches etc. Unfortunately I have no other Win7 machine in the house.
Nevermind - NWN2 worked absolutely fine, so I'm content with playing that :)
Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.

Aaaaah! My EYES! The goggles do nothing! On the other hand, Thanks for the links; don't know if they'll solve my issues, but for people who make such great games, Bioware has the worst website design I have ever seen on the web in regard to being able to FIND things; unimportant things, like patches.

Shia, one thing you might want to add is disabling User Account Control (UAC) before installing. Microsoft recommends doing this for both Win 7 and Vista users that intend to run software designed for XP on the new platforms.

You should also incude Impulse in the line "If you wish to install from the disk(s) or from GOG" - e.g. "If you wish to install from the disk(s) or from GOG / Impulse"

You wouldn't happen to know if the Impulse version is identical to the GoG one?  I mean, GoG has changed the version they release from its initial configuration so that it is now already upgraded to v1.69 and ready to fly when you DL it.  Just wondering if Impulse has gone the same route with versions and procuring CD-keys for on-line play?  The price is the same but that doesn't always mean the product is the same.

The Impulse version includes 1.69. I only have one copy so I can't speak for the CD Key. When I bought the game I got an email that had three CD-Keys - one for the OC, SoU, and HotU, unlike my GOG version for which I had to request keys.

Is there any patch that can improve performance on modern computers? I play in 1280x1024 resolution with max settings and the game is lagging badly in battles with 10 or more NPCs. I have no such problems with modern RPG such as Dragon Age series for example.

NWN is really old.  The engine was designed early in the life of most "modern" graphics cards etc.  Some features were enabled that should NOT be.

For one, turn OFF shiny water.  99% of the content available for NWN can't handle/isn't designed for, shiny water.  Turn that off for sure.

Since the engine is soooo old, having everything at Max settings is likely your biggest issue.   There are many, many threads regarding improving speed for players.  I would highly suggest searching this forum for those as there are likely many small changes you can make to your settings to improve your play.

Dug out my old copy of NWN, this update did the trick to get it working Win 7 so thanks! :)

Edit: Disapointed to have to re-reg, old account had lots of links to usual posts but worth doing to thank you for compling the list of patches.

They do? I and my friends have never had to do that to get NWN working and I've never seen it offered as advice before... not that I doubt your sincerity in offering this, I just feel uncomfortable adding info I haven't managed to confirm to the main post. I think I'll quote you under an "alternative advice section"

Impulse? *googling*  Ahhhh ok... cool. And you have a copy and can confirm the current advice is ok for the impulse version?

Performance is very dependant on drivers for video AND sound. Get the latest ones and if that still leaves you with problems make a new thread listing your computer details. (see the "start here" sticky)

Thank you for making so much effort. A rare thing to see. Am very happy the info helped you.

It is a terrible shame the old forums are not available, but they say they are still working on getting them back and some things have been fixed so far regarding the old functions of the hacked server, so we can but hope.

Have fun :)

Hi all, I have been following the installation guide in front and finally success! Yay and thank you! However I have question about Patch 1.69. I own the Diamond box so do I need to download and install this patch?
