Is the Templar Plate not wearable? 
Alister already has the Templer Specialization, but he couldn't wear the plate even though he has the strength for it.

My Alister has it on ATM. Bug perhaps?

He can wear it. Make sure he doesn't have an injury that's lowering his strength.

edit: also be sure his base strength is high enough to wear it. Bonuses from other items don't help.

are you sure he had the strength for it? If he did maybe it is a bug. In my game he is able to wear it...

hemm.. maybe it is because he just died. His Strength on default is 42. The only thing that is red in the description is "Restriction: Templar"

I'll try again when I get home.

This is incorrect, your base strength does not need to be high enough if items push you over the limit. In fact I had alistair wearing armor he couldnt actually wear without having the stat buffs the armor itself gives just by switching out items with stat buffs.

Are you sure your Combat Training (Specialization) is high enough? Or does that only apply to weapons.

You mean I have to actually to further down his Templar Skill Tree to wear the armor?

The templar armor is a high tier armor if i remember correctly you need to have 3 levels of combat training i think to wear it. Also you do not need to have his base strength meet it as long as he has the strength necessary when you equip i.e. bonuses from items do count.
