Ok I think I'm nearly at the Collector ship on my VG run.... and I'm not sure which weapon to take....

I love the katana shotgun.....but I'm looking into vids about the claymore

I don't have DLC...... so that narrows it down to the basic AR and SR....but is having another medium ranged weapon good for a Vanguard? Or being long ranged?

Depends on your playstyle. I suggest you save the game and give a try to all the options and then stick with the one you like the best. Though Viper SR is now obsolete since the new Firepower DLC came out, the new AR is so powerful it's not even funny, so I recommend you try Claymore and AR and then see what suits you the most. Personally, I take Claymore every time.

Claymore for close range and Locust for the rare moments when Charge is not possible is good enough for me. I enjoy using Claymore more than any other weapon.
But if you are not gonna get the Firepower DLC, Viper is better than AR for a Vanguard imho. Locust is basically mini-AR, so you would not get a significant upgrade. Save your game and try them all, that's the best thing you can do

Thanks. I just did. Tried the claymore.... looked powerful but had only ten shots...

Tried AR. Didn't know I have a choice between the 2 of em. Trying that out now.

May go back and try the SR.

All I know is... my Vanguard Shep now has 5 weapons in the Collector vessel...

I feel really overpowered LOL and I'm only Lv. 17 or something I think

Crap all the weapons look good for a Vanguard. I reloaded and took the claymore.

If you have no DLC at all, ie no Locust, I'd go for SRs for the Viper. Unless, for some reason, you cast your other biotics a lot, in which case the Vindicator would be better.



The reason for this is that sometimes Charging just isn't an option, and you need a reliable weapon with some actual range. Niether of the standard SMGs really fit the bill, and while the Heavy Pistols work, they don't have enough ammo.
